Haha ok, I feel a lot better now, thanks! Also, awesome DJ Hanzel avatarmilkandcheerios wrote:it took me a little over a month to go complete with an early Jan submit date. You're totally fine.moopness wrote:Congrats to those admitted!
My status checker says completion is still pending, and while I did submit late (Jan 31) I would have figured my app would have gone complete by now...Should I be super worried? I find it odd that NYU was able to accept me less than two weeks after submitting but I'm not even complete at Columbia yet
This Columbia cycle looks really strange, but I badly want to get in, so please show me some love Columbia!!!

Someone needs to edit the thread title to say "*COLUMBIA TAKES FOREVER TO GO COMPLETE STOP WORRYING* (also applicants chat here)"AdInfinitum wrote:I've been completion pending since January 13th.
Seems like a long time - should I shoot them an email?

What's the deal with merit scholarships? For those of us who didn't get one with the initial acceptance email, is that pretty much it or are they going to hand out more money later?

Been complete since October... I think they've lost my application (which would be hilarious since they lost my UG app too...)Hitchensian wrote:I've also been completion pending since around the same time.AdInfinitum wrote:I've been completion pending since January 13th.

I was (am?) optimistic that once the deadline passed for new apps decisions would noticeably speed up.

Re: Columbia c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
I don't know. Looking over the LSN numbers from last year, there isn't much to indicate a big March spurt. That being said, the people who have yet to hear anything since going complete months ago may just be so outlier-ish that they wouldn't show up as a big wave. All I can think is either they're keeping a reject wave close to their chest for some devilish reason (for the non-holds) or they're in the nitty gritty part of trying to reach their numbers/put together a class that doesn't suck without necessarily wanting to commit to holding certain short term holds. For decision purposes, I imagine telling someone they're in in March is better than making them wait until April seat deposit pressures start kicking in. Still, seeing how it takes a month for people to go complete, they wouldn't have all the info for all the applicants until late march or early April, which is kind of the hold timeline (it may speed up because volume trails off closer to deadline, of course). So, if not held, I imagine your app wouldn't be compared in that way, in which case, there should be some movement within a week or two.Hitchensian wrote:I was (am?) optimistic that once the deadline passed for new apps decisions would noticeably speed up.

Obviously there's no way to know, but what's the leading theory for those of us who haven't heard a peep? Is silence simply an indication of being an extremely on-the-fence applicant, or should it be regarded as a most likely impending WL/ding?

Re: Columbia c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
Those aren't mutually exclusive. I think we're past the point of being able to rely on any general expectations of a wave of particular outcomes for the unnotified. March, I imagine, is a potpourri of decisions for various people (possibly on the fence for one outcome or another). We've seen days that had mini-waves of two or three acceptances, holds, or reserves (no dings, which makes me nervous). All I would expect is that, given the large wave of holds last week, not being held at this point means knowing something in the near future. I'm basing this on the fact that being officially held, or rather not being held, actually means something for the admissions timeline and isn't just something they do for fun. You should probably look at your numbers and decide what they likely portend, especially given some of the high range holds that went out last week.rsklnkv515 wrote:Obviously there's no way to know, but what's the leading theory for those of us who haven't heard a peep? That's hilarious because they lost my UG app too (well, my transcript, and then blamed it on my school). I have low hopes at this point.blckwsl wrote:Been complete since October... Just received an invitation to interview. At least this means not waiting for the mail to come every day for at least two more weeks!

I don't know if this makes me actually scared they lost my application, or hopeful that maybe they are meaning to accept me, but just stuck it somewhere and are going to find it and admit me.Nonconsecutive wrote:Yeah, I know someone applying to Columbia for graduate school this cycle and they lost their app for 3 months.drawstring wrote:So I guess this is nothing new for CoLOLmbia then

The level of incompetence/insecurity at Columbia is astounding to me.
(No interview invite here, still no word from them since I went complete 9/21)

To make myself feel better I'm going to assume they want to interview me in order to ask whether I'd prefer the Hamilton or Butler
