Does anybody know if a considerable number of people were accepted from the pools that were held in previous years?

I'm on hold and had the same question so I did a bunch of digging a few weeks ago. I read through like 100 pages of the NU thread from last year and it seemed like about half the held applicants were admitted. The admits mostly had high numbers so the hold was probably YP, then the other half were waitlisted. No one reported hold --> reject on TLS (but of course it's an unrepresentative sample, people could have been rejected and not reported it, yadda yadda). I know someone who went hold --> WL --> admit last year and I'm going to talk to him soon about it and I'll report back his advice.helpplease wrote:Does anybody know if a considerable number of people were accepted from the pools that were held in previous years?
TL;DR there's definitely hope for those of us on hold!

There were a couple of NU admits who got very late acceptances elsewhere (Chicago and NYU, IIRC) that would have opened up spots at NU.snapdragon25 wrote:I'm on hold and had the same question so I did a bunch of digging a few weeks ago. I was hold --> WL --> accepted 2 years ago, and so were two of my friends. I'd be happy to answer any questions for you. I was a super splitter who applied late (as in January) and got off the waitlist in June, about 2 weeks before the date I had indicated I would need to withdraw from the WL so the school I was teaching at could plan for the next year.snapdragon25 wrote:I'm on hold and had the same question so I did a bunch of digging a few weeks ago. Have any held students scheduled interviews? I'm still working on my essays (which were surprisingly harder than I thought, especially the fictional person one since I have to figure out how to parse background details on the character) but I plan on submitting them Monday along with a Why X and question about interviewing. If there's absolutely no other way to interview besides flying to Chicago, obviously I'll do it, but I remember some people saying they managed to secure Skype interviews? I legitimately cannot afford ~$200 in plane fare and missed work and can probably provide bank documents supporting that between me and my mother, we have < $1,000 in the bank, but if it's not a flexible thing then I'll take the hit or maybe open up my first CC.

I did a skype 'on-campus' interview . I think you should explain your situation to them and ask them for a skype interview. Good Luck!LRGhost wrote:Have any held students scheduled interviews? Congrats to all the new admits! Visited the school on Friday, freaking gorgeous. And everybody seemed to be legitimately...happy.
