Today I went to class, wrote part of my thesis, cleaned my house, did my laundry, and finished It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in an attempt to distract myself from checking status checkers. If anyone has ideas for hobbies lmk.

Wait til March/April when the next gen comes out, and then decide. Make your life less expensive. Also, don't get the current pro if you want a USB port.

Also, I know the version of the Pro IIII have (idr which one) doesn't have a CD port... I'm not sure if it matters to you or not & I'm not sure if all of them are without it?

It's not 100% confirmed (are they ever?), but friends of mine at Apple have hinted at it heavily, and there are quite a few techy sites touting that rumor around so... yeah. And waiting a couple months just in case probably won't hurt, y'know? Plus, if you know for sure where you're going by then, many schools have discounts and deals on notebooks, etc.

I have a MacBook Air and it's the best computer I've ever had. It's slim as hell, light, has a solid-state drive, and is as powerful as a MacBook Pro, unless you want to edit video and things like that. It doesn't have a CD drive, but I've never had the need to use it in the 3 years I've had it, and you can always get a cheap external one if the need arrives. I would recommend that. Save money and get a Pro when you're a balling lawyer, but for law school I think you can survive on the Air. All just my opinion of course and I'm really not tech savvy, FWIW.

I have had my lenovo laptop for almost ten years. It is old, it is big, but it is customizable, so I keep replacing the hard-drive (and once the battery), so it is absurdly fast. It runs just as well as a new computer. HOWEVER, I will be getting a new lap top for school.
1) it's time
2) it looks unprofessional (I've had this thing for almost 10 years, I have stickers on it that shouldn't be...)
3) no matter how much i replace the battery, it just won't have the battery life of some of the newer models. For long days in class, this is important for me, as is the mobility of something that doesn't need to be plugged in between classes for it to be helpful
4) Again, mobility. This thing doesn't weigh too much in the grand scheme of life (a little less than 10 pounds) that's not particularly helpful when I'm already lugging around a million other things. New laptops are slim and many weigh less than 3 pounds. That's awesome.
5) Also, if you're thinking that maybe a full blown investment in a computer is worth it, consider a tablet. Many of these also double for note-taking purposes (like you can hand-write with a stylus on them, but it saves to a cloud/computer) and you can put many texts on it and save yourself some weight.

I'm sure there are other reasons, but this is where I am in my decision making process. Oh yeah, also friends at apple, so I'll get a hefty discount

I love seeing some fellow PC users. Hate macs, they can't play video games at all and are overpriced for being able to only do exactly what a $200 computer can do. I'm not sure if I'll be replacing my 4 year old Sony going into law school, though. Might wait for it to start showing signs of death.

+1. Had a pro for UG and rarely needed the CD drive and the extra functions that it came with. Also it was heavy as hell and I hated carrying that thing around campus. I just got a 13in MacBook Air and love it so much! It feels 1/5 lighter and it's just more portable imo. The Apple guy even suggested the Air to me when I told him I'd mostly be using it at law school, even when he has an incentive to sell the more expensive one lol

I mean, you rocking a Thinkpad or just a Lenovo? I don't really know why you wouldn't want a lenovo, but I think a Thinkpad is THE laptop for law school so if it's that then for real no reason

Pretty clear it's going to be a down cycle overall. The percent changes in bands will tell us how it might impact admissions and/or $$$.

I've had an air for 5 years now and it's fantastic. It's starting to show wear and slow down a bit but that might be more bc I need to clean it than anything. I also def need a new battery.
I got the 11 inch, and the things been a workhorse for me during and after college. I love being able to take it anywhere, and I often end up cramming it into a backpack that's already too full just bc I'd rather have it. The thing has survived countless drops pretty much without a scratch. And yeah, it weighs nothing.

I will say 11inches is a bit small and hard on the eyes, and I'd possibly consider a monitor if you want a home work station.

The air also has a function where you can use another computers CD drive. So when I went to install word, I act used my moms iMac. But this probably doesn't really matter since you can download pretty much anything.

Thank you guys so much for the input; leaning toward the Air for sure, but will consider the non-pro macbook IF they do some type of special update for it when they release a new wave of products (hopefully) in April or May.

I always told myself that I wouldn't allow myself to look at computers until I actually got into school, but that was in October and I still haven't checked. I used to be OBSESSED with all technology, researching it so much. Now I am interested in the surface but want to wait a little bit longer in case anything gets updated. Maybe once I choose a school.

Iirc there was a 9.7% increase in dec test takers? So that might be a bit of the difference.

I doubt this "increase" would erase the pretty big drop in high scorers.

Yup, just based on the way scores are allocated 1 test couldn't make up for all those drops, I just hope the number is really being propped up by the mean scores
