I applied in early January and went complete not long after. I got an email in early February saying that my application was under review and I haven't heard a peep since thing. I've tried calling a few times this week to check on the status and it just rings and rings and rings until voice mail kicks in. I left one voice mail and haven't heard back. Anyone else experience this?

I'm at the 75th% LSAT and above the 25% GPA by more than a tenth of a point.

This is the same for me. Well, except that I actually got through but they said I'm still under review. Crazy though, because I should have been a shoe in.

no no no no, i didn't mean it like that and i'm sorry if that's how it came across. I don't really know how the whole admissions things work but I just assumed that they would wait and see from the folks currently admitted to see who paid their deposits and how much room they had and then send out more acceptances.

Oh, okay. (Even if you meant it like that, it's not the end of the world. I imagine that, as an eventual lawyer, people will be saying much worse things to me.)

Interestingly enough, the fact that I haven't heard anything three weeks after getting the "under review" e-mail is oddly comforting. After all, if they wanted to reject me right away, why would they hesitate? What's the gain to them by waiting for so long? As Washington & Lee (and probably many others) have said, the fact that I haven't heard anything means I am actively being considered. I try to tell myself that with all of the schools.

I was reading a blog and came across this article written by the chairman and global managing partner of K&L Gates. The article is a long complaint regarding the USNWR rankings. However, there is substantial discussion of Pitt Law (and schools like it).

From the article:

"I am a graduate of Yale Law School. It was and is a great place -- but it's no Pitt Law. Yale Law is the same tiny size it was 50 years ago -- about 165 students per class. The 50 largest law firms in the country now employ about 65,000 lawyers. Yale Law today, sad to say, is quantitatively beside the point to most of the country's leading law firms. And, of course, 'Yale Law' is merely a metaphor that embraces Harvard, Stanford, Chicago and the other "designer" law schools whose entering class sizes are frozen in time like the fetching smile of a prom date you haven't seen in 40 years.

"Consider the impact of the real Pitt Law on my firm. We have 29 partners and 60 lawyers overall who are graduates of Pitt Law. What exactly would I say that wouldn't be asking for a decision over e-mail? I already received an e-mail three weeks ago telling me was I was under review. And then when sent another one asking whether I would be notified when a decision has been made, I was told all decisions would mailed to me, which come to think of it really doesn't answer my question.

And then when sent another one asking whether I would be notified when a decision has been made, I was told all decisions would mailed to me, which come to think of it really doesn't answer my question.

I usually just made up an excuse to bother them...whether it was a random question about a LOR or just something about my application. Then I would nonchalantly ask how long it may be until I will get a decision... Something along those lines.... Worth a shot to calm your nerves...

I would ask if a decision has been made. As deposit deadlines approach, you would like to know if you should plan on submitting a deposit elsewhere.

It's an administrative question, I wouldn't worry about it changing an admission decision. Lawyers have to ask a lot of hard questions to people they don't know, and may be intimidated by. Think of this as practice.

I am not particularly surprised by the lack of responses, since I sent my applications in so late, and many of them were for part time programs, but still, I'd like to know. I guess I will contact them tomorrow.

Pitt is extremely random. I didn't even get an "in review" e-mail and came home one day to an acceptance letter. So if you have heard nothing, don't worry much!

1. How competitive are students?

2. How are the professors? Are they easily accessible outside of class? Are they "evil"?

3. Do they tend to throw curveballs on the exams?

4. How is the curve?

5. Any specifics on job prospects for firms like KL Gates, Reed Smith, Jones Day ?(Please spare me the ITE talk)

6. I saw some university owned housing in North oakland, are those furnished? How "nice" are they? Are they easy to get? Is it first come first serve?

7. How is the weather there?

8. Any asian students?

9. If you are a 1L at Pitt and if you don't mind me asking, how well did you do? How much did you study?

This was back a few months ago, but thanks . I'm kind of disappointed that I have to skip out early on ASD because I have to see Rutgers-Camden the next day and trek across and back the state of PA . Still, I'm looking forward to the visit next weekend.

Alot of this has been discussed in this thread. Go back a few pages.
Profs are good, seem accessible. There's a few who might be "evil" in the Socratic sense.
There's been a few exam curveballs. Torts and Crim Pro come to mind...it helps some, hurts some....
Prospects for those firms....these days (I know you dont wanna hear ITE but too bad) you better be top 5-10%. And no, thats not the kind of thing you can plan on.
Don't know about University housing....no one I know of lives there. Most law/grad students choose not to live in Oakland.
Yes there's Asians.
I'm not a 1L now, but I came in around the top 1/3 my 1L year. Studied pretty hard. The last month of each semester that's all you do.

Received my acceptance today in the mail. Dean's scholarship 14,000 per year. I am actually going to drive 6 hours tomorrow to visit the school because I have a free day.
