yeah they basically said all scholarships are handed out and only a few are left in reserve for our most promising candidates that apply late in the cycle. Re: U Iowa 2010 App Cycle
I have contrary info, the admissions office told me the same thing when I called a month ago. However, the assistant dean over scholarships notified that they intended more to come out by the end of this week or next. So . . . go fish or still frantically wait by the mailbox, I am not sure.Slimpee wrote:Like, ever?robin600 wrote:Called the admissions office, no more schollys are being handed out. I called 2-3 weeks ago and was told that partial scholarships were being evaluated in the middle of January. Anyone else want to call and verify?

Re: U Iowa 2010 App Cycle
If you were admitted early december they probably just haven't got to you yet and you are still in the scholarship pile TBD. She said those admitted after don't have a good chance because they save the few scholarships they have left for their "most promising" candidates.webbylu87 wrote:I called 2-3 weeks ago and was told that partial scholarships were being evaluated in the middle of January. All scholarships may have been offered, but not everyone who got offered one is going to accept. So unless they over-offered in anticipation of withdrawls, there's bound to be a few of them freed up as people withdraw.robin600 wrote:yeah they basically said all scholarships are handed out and only a few are left in reserve for our most promising candidates that apply late in the cycle. +1, I'm guessing they keep these ones for waitlist retakes who rock the LSAT. just a guess thotraehekat wrote:This.JCougar wrote:

Re: U Iowa 2010 App Cycle
How much will applying late in the cycle (end of February) hurt my chances at Iowa? Does applying late put me in position to be wait listed?
My application is done except for one oustanding LOR. The recommender plans to send this LOR to LSAC in early February. For the sake of saving time, would it be wise (or even possible) for him to mail the LOR directly to UIowa (separate from the rest of my application which will be done through LSAC) ?

One of the main reasons I applied to IA is the supposedly generous scholarship program. No schollie, no me. (I am sure they are heart broken)

Re: U Iowa 2010 App Cycle
I believe Iowa specifically states that the reccomend all applications be in by this week, even though their deadline is in March. I would get the rest of your application sent off this weekend, and let them know that you are getting them one additional LOR in a few weeks.Undergradut wrote:How much will applying late in the cycle (end of February) hurt my chances at Iowa? I applied now even though my LSAT/GPA probably won't get me in, but I'm retaking in February and banking on a 2-3 point increase. I didn't want to rush an application out the last weekend in February, especially to Iowa, a school seemingly unconcerned about medians and more focused on softs. So I guess I took a $60 gamble, but I think it will be worth it.

Here's a question about scholarships.. I was the first one on TLS accepted to Iowa, but I haven't heard anything about scholarships yet... Does that mean I probably am paying sticker?

My understanding is that the only scholarships offered so far were full rides - and that consideration for other scholarships is being made this week/next week? Or something along those lines.nyskidude wrote:Here's a question about scholarships.. I was the first one on TLS accepted to Iowa, but I haven't heard anything about scholarships yet... Yep, you're still in the running for some scholarship money, nyskidude. Good luck!Baylan wrote:My understanding is that the only scholarships offered so far were full rides - and that consideration for other scholarships is being made this week/next week? That's good news. Thanks guys. With Illinois giving me 30k, I doubt I would pay sticker for Iowa.

Can you qualify for instate tuition as a 2L/3L at UIUC?nyskidude wrote:That's good news. Thanks guys. With Illinois giving me 30k, I doubt I would pay sticker for Iowa.

Re: U Iowa 2010 App Cycle
From my understanding you cannot. You have to prove you have a job offer in the state and fifty other requirements to be qualified for instate. I noticed that there is a specific clause that says if you are there for educational purposes then you will not qualify. You can't even buy a house and qualify. So non-resident sticker is a scary 3 year timeframe for anyone.JOThompson wrote:Can you qualify for instate tuition as a 2L/3L at UIUC?nyskidude wrote:That's good news. Thanks guys. In that case, Iowa at sticker might be a better deal than 30K at Illinois (assuming you can get instate rates after your first year at Iowa).Padimud wrote:From my understanding you cannot. Iowa is supposed to be somewhat difficult (but possible) to obtain residency in. And is that 30k total, or 30k/year? Big difference there. In that case, Iowa at sticker might be a better deal than 30K at Illinois (assuming you can get instate rates after your first year at Iowa).

My bad I didn't read the UIUC above. That info is for IOWA, not Illinois. Illinois you can qualify for in-state after the first year, Iowa blows that way.JOThompson wrote:In that case, Iowa at sticker might be a better deal than 30K at Illinois (assuming you can get instate rates after your first year at Iowa).Padimud wrote:From my understanding you cannot. This is false, you cannot qualify for in-state after the first year for Illinois. Not unless you buy a house, or marry someone, at least. This is the way that I understood it when I talked to finaid at Illinois (I visited when I was at UIUC early in the fall semester).

So by false you mean, correct under circumstances. Point taken. It is easier at Illinois than Iowa, trust me.Baylan wrote:Padimud wrote:
