Has anyone tried negotiating for scholarship money at UF? I received a $20,000 scholarship from UM, but nothing from UF. I'm trying to decide between the two and a scholarship offer from UF would really help sway my decision.

I received 60% at Miami and withdrew a couple days ago. I also have successfully negotiated a bump at UF. Pm me for more details.

If you're in state then I'm not sure why there is any question. Miami is like 47k a year and UF 22k.You'd still pay more to go to Miami. UF is #1 in the state and Miami #3. UF is ranked 41st and climbing, UM is 77th and falling. Cost of living in Miami is ridiculous and Gainesville is VERY reasonable. If you go to UF you can practice pretty much anywhere in the state. From what I hear about Miami, you can practice in Miami. If you can't tell I'm not impressed with Miami at all and I think they are WAY overpriced even with 20k scholly. Now, if you're out of state then you'd pay a little more for UF but would probably be a wash with cost of living and I'd still pick UF. You can also ask UF for reconsideration for a scholly, it doesn't hurt to ask and I believe others have had some success.

FWIW I believe theres ANOTHER ASD this weekend so I would guess the whole office is busy with a lot of that information? I was hoping for a response this week as well but it seems unlikely as theres been no movement according to LSN.

You make really great points. Thank you for your reply. I'm so torn. I went to UF for undergrad and was looking for a new experience for law school. Miami is in a big city that offers countless opportunities for internships/externships. Gainesville is in a small city, and doesn't offer much in the form of internships/externships with local firms. I know for a fact that I wouldn't live or work in Gainesville after graduating from law school. The culture at UM also seems to be less competitive than the culture at UF which I appreciate. Still, I'm attending the admitted students day this Friday so that I can make a final decision. Do you have any suggestions on how I would go about asking UF to reconsider a scholarship offer for me?

Did you apply to FSU? I think that'll give you more leverage with UF than Miami.

I would not say FSU offers better experiential learning. UF and FSU both offer clinics, internships, externships and co-curricular organizations. It is really hard to say any law school -- outside of cost and job placement -- is doing something another law school is not.

I don't think it's an unreasonable point. Being in the state capital offers FSU students advantages that UF students don't have in Gainesville. But those advantages are already accounted for in the job stats.

I called the office last week and it sounded like they were being mindful of seat deposit deadlines because they asked when my others were. Also said there will be movement happening very soon, gotta hope that not all the people that plan on submitting their deposit to UF will wait till the 14th.
