Has anyone tried negotiating for scholarship money at UF? I received a $20,000 scholarship from UM, but nothing from UF. I'm trying to decide between the two and a scholarship offer from UF would really help sway my decision.

If you wouldn't mind sharing, what are your stats? I also received a $20k scholly from UM, however, I have yet to hear from UF. I am a UF undergrad and would love to stay.dream123 wrote:Has anyone tried negotiating for scholarship money at UF? I received a $20,000 scholarship from UM, but nothing from UF. I received 60% at Miami and withdrew a couple days ago. I also have successfully negotiated a bump at UF. Pm me for more details.D.Raymer wrote:If you wouldn't mind sharing, what are your stats? If you're in state then I'm not sure why there is any question. Miami is like 47k a year and UF 22k.You'd still pay more to go to Miami. UF is #1 in the state and Miami #3. UF is ranked 41st and climbing, UM is 77th and falling. Cost of living in Miami is ridiculous and Gainesville is VERY reasonable. If you go to UF you can practice pretty much anywhere in the state. From what I hear about Miami, you can practice in Miami. If you can't tell I'm not impressed with Miami at all and I think they are WAY overpriced even with 20k scholly. Now, if you're out of state then you'd pay a little more for UF but would probably be a wash with cost of living and I'd still pick UF. You can also ask UF for reconsideration for a scholly, it doesn't hurt to ask and I believe others have had some success.dream123 wrote:Has anyone tried negotiating for scholarship money at UF? Yes, there is an ASD this Friday at UF.Atm94 wrote:FWIW I believe theres ANOTHER ASD this weekend so I would guess the whole office is busy with a lot of that information? I was hoping for a response this week as well but it seems unlikely as theres been no movement according to LSN.MOLaw wrote:Same. You make really great points. Thank you for your reply. I'm so torn. I went to UF for undergrad and was looking for a new experience for law school. Miami is in a big city that offers countless opportunities for internships/externships. Gainesville is in a small city, and doesn't offer much in the form of internships/externships with local firms. I know for a fact that I wouldn't live or work in Gainesville after graduating from law school. The culture at UM also seems to be less competitive than the culture at UF which I appreciate. Still, I'm attending the admitted students day this Friday so that I can make a final decision. Do you have any suggestions on how I would go about asking UF to reconsider a scholarship offer for me?michelekfla wrote:If you're in state then I'm not sure why there is any question. Did you apply to FSU? I think that'll give you more leverage with UF than Miami.dream123 wrote:You make really great points. Thank you for your reply. I'm so torn. For people who sent in a LOCI who did you address your letter to?

For anyone who has been to an admitted student day:
Does UF have a response to the argument that FSU offers better experiential learning due to their location in the state capital?

I'm actually really interested to see if you get accepted here soon. You shared your stats with me on reddit.WamBamThankYouMaam wrote:I wrote, "Dear Dean Byrd and members of the Admissions Committee"ApplicationSzn wrote:For people who sent in a LOCI who did you address your letter to?
FWIW, I'm rooting for you. I believe your LSAT will do it.

I would not say FSU offers better experiential learning. UF and FSU both offer clinics, internships, externships and co-curricular organizations. It is really hard to say any law school -- outside of cost and job placement -- is doing something another law school is not.

Re: UF c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I don't think it's an unreasonable point. Being in the state capital offers FSU students advantages that UF students don't have in Gainesville. But those advantages are already accounted for in the job stats.__blah wrote:jcburns wrote:For anyone who has been to an admitted student day:

I called the office last week and it sounded like they were being mindful of seat deposit deadlines because they asked when my others were. Also said there will be movement happening very soon, gotta hope that not all the people that plan on submitting their deposit to UF will wait till the 14th.WamBamThankYouMaam wrote:In hoping for tomorrow, but my money is on next Monday or Tuesday, considering their deposit deadline is Friday.Atm94 wrote:Let us hope for a lovely Monday morning acceptance wave.brownellewoods wrote:this is the week... this is mid april!!!
