Hey friends, I also received the letter removing me from the waitlist yesterday. My stats were terrible (below both medians) so I was realistic with my expectations. Silver lining, at least they're letting us know now instead of mid-August. Good luck to everyone still in the running and thanks for contributing to this forum!

Yup. Sent in a LOCI with new information and a better LSAT score. > 25% GPA and median LSAT.dondondondon wrote:I'm sorry to hear, do you mind sharing your stats? Did you send in an LOCI?spottedgiraffes wrote:Got a letter saying they're taking me off the waitlist![]()

Where is everyone from receiving this messages? I'm from the Midwest so don't know if I haven't received one because of the distance or because I'm still in the running.socaljd wrote:Hey friends, I also received the letter removing me from the waitlist yesterday. I'm from SoCal. The letter was mailed over the July 4th weekend. Just got it a few days ago since I haven't checked my mailbox.lawschool0070 wrote:Where is everyone from receiving this messages? have you guys looked at law school transparency? UC Irvine is doing awesome in employment, hanging with the big boys like Yale, and does unusually well in placing students into clerkships (second only to Yale). But it only has 15.5% biglaw stat (compare to say Stanford or Harvard at 50%). I think it's true that UC Irvine has the superstar faculty and they all have good relations with various federal court judges, and this might explain the high clerkship rate. But although their LSAT/GPA and employment stats are just as good as UCLA, haters gonna hate on the new kid on the block. UCI needs more alumni network to do better in biglaw and get that reputational score increased. That's really the only thing holding it from getting that top 20 status.

Anyone on the WL receive any updates or anything? I'm debating whether or not to call the admissions office, but not sure how that would help other than some sort of relief from my end.

UCI doesn't require a deposit and tuition is the first form of payment (due in a week and a half or so?)... I wouldn't expect any movement, if any, until orientation unfortunately. That's just my two cents.

Still on the WL as well! At least we have some sort of info now of when we'll most likely be hearing back.

wtf did I just read? Chemerinsky is still the dean and never announced leaving. I remember reading he said he would retire as dean at UCI Law. He has a bunch of kids in Irvine and all his tenured professors from other schools permanently relocated with him to Irvine. Is this April Fools?Roosevelt wrote:Hahaha this...faculty or something for sure.calmtigers wrote:Can't tell if these Zot posts are part of people's stips.... #SoUCI??? Hahahaha sorry, thats some serious dedication to the Zot!lawschool0070 wrote:Clerkships are something I was definitely referring to, those are a huge number to UCI as posted all over their publications, and most of them are due directly to Chemerinsky's connections. Also a 0L, and just nervous as to what to expect from the future of this schoolktbee wrote:In my (humble) opinion, it's not a major blow. The school, faculty, and culture he built will still be intact. Most of the grads get jobs from the experience they get from the clinical/pro bono programs they offer, meaning, I don't think rankings would be effected significantly. Clerkships may be the exception. I'm an undecided 0L, but this will a small factor for me.lawschool0070 wrote:I understand what you're trying to say but this man is literally the cornerstone of UCI Law and the fact that he is leaving before we're expected to graduate makes me question my potential success at UCI. And I also understand that he is actually stepping down to teaching, but the impact of a teacher and the impact of a dean or completely different. This is a major blow.Kayak1277 wrote:First, the vast majority of students don't use the dean for personal connections. We have a robust CDO office and the traditional methods to get jobs too. Second, he isn't leaving (he will still be teaching) so he will still be able to use personal connections to the extent he does now.lawschool0070 wrote:So essentially the man who built UCI and used his own personal connections to get grads jobs is leaving before we're expected to graduate. Not too sure how I feel about this, UCI may be lowering itself in the coming future in rankings and in employment success.
I wouldn't worry too much about the Dean leaving (again, he isn't leaving). The school is set up to succeed long after he is done being dean.
