Roughly, scholarships worth <50% tuition, between 50% and 75%, and over 75%. Or, you know, whatever they mean to each person.njkga wrote:Whats the difference between $, $$, and $$$?TheProdigal wrote:New poll.

Last year they offered either a travel stipend or free accommodation.manda94 wrote:Applied at the end October and got admitted about two weeks ago with a scholarship. Anyone know if the school reimburses you when you visit or something like that?
ETA: For ASW.

I looked into this over the weekend and it looks like they do not, but they offer free hotel accommodations during visiting weekend.manda94 wrote:Applied at the end October and got admitted about two weeks ago with a scholarship. Also, do their scholarships come with conditions? Mine didn't specify and I'm wondering if that info comes later after the acceptance.

In via mail yesterday. Genuinely surprised at the 108k scholarship given my numbers and non-URM status

2015's 509 report lists no conditional scholarships. This was confirmed by the financial aid office to me last year. I would assume this hasn't changed.manda94 wrote:Also, do their scholarships come with conditions? Mine didn't specify and I'm wondering if that info comes later after the acceptance.

I called now and the only condition is to remain in good standing, which means having a gpa of a 2.25 or something around there.TheProdigal wrote:2015's 509 report lists no conditional scholarships. I spoke with admissions now and you're right. It's only that weekend that accommodations are paid for.mist4bison wrote:I looked into this over the weekend and it looks like they do not, but they offer free hotel accommodations during visiting weekend.manda94 wrote:Applied at the end October and got admitted about two weeks ago with a scholarship. Just received a substantial scholarship from Emory which turned my head
But when I started researching a little more I found that 19.4% of their graduates are in school funded jobs?
How can they have that many positions available and how much do they pay?

In via email. Scholarship is TBD (haven't seen the mailing, but I know I did not get Woodruff). I, like the poster above, am very concerned about job numbers and don't think I will be attending because of that, but it might be nice to get on campus and get a feel for myself. Don't want to rule anything out too soon - I liked Emory when I considered undergrads!
Edit: Also, I got the same message as below.

In this morning via email. Applied for Woodruff, but I was told that I will not be offered one and instead will receive an "enhanced merit scholarship to be included with my admission letter."

So you may want to take this with a grain of salt, since every time I preface these with something about conversations with the administration last year things have changed.Dexter97 wrote:Just received a substantial scholarship from Emory which turned my head![]()

Now, that said, school funded jobs for Emory are more like fellowships, the school arranges to pay $1000/month to students as they work for free/volunteer at small to mid-size firms, government offices, PI non-profits, PD offices, DA offices, etc. until the newly minted grad proves themselves competent and is hired on a permanent basis. I was also told that there was no limit on how long these stipends are paid for, though the majority don't go beyond a year. During ASW they provided an example of a grad who moved across the country, and how they worked with offices in her new city to provide the same support.

I think in most cases, this means "until they take/pass the bar and receive results"TheProdigal wrote: until the newly minted grad proves themselves competent and is hired on a permanent basis. Anyone know if there's a travel stipend? Particularly for a non-ASW visit?

I think they will pay for your hotel or offer a stipend if you go to their ASW. For visits outside of ASW, it doesn't seem like there is a stipend.James.K.Polk wrote:Anyone know if there's a travel stipend? Particularly for a non-ASW visit?

Last numbers I saw actually put it closer to 1/4 (Emory has the highest number of school funded positions). When I was talking to some administrators earlier, I was told this is because of the transfers that we take being so high. Transfers dont touch our medians and pay tuition, so the school likes to have them to help buy other candidates. They are often from schools like Barry and John Marshall and dont have a good chance of succeeding anyway. I'm not really sure what that should mean to anyone making choices, but thats the explanation I was given.James.K.Polk wrote:In via email. Also, I got the no Woodruff/increased award email today as well

Re: Emory Law c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
That just sounds absurd and, if true, pretty dark . I imagine it's more of a function of being in and reliant upon Atlanta which is fed by higher ranked schools in the region and has a limited number of jobs for Emory (which is still a lot but not as many as they really would need not being a national school). I don't doubt that their school funded fellowship program sometimes or even often leads to people getting hired after their one year fellowship, but the fact of the matter is that providing a fellowship for a year allows them to count that person as full time employed. For those who don't read into the numbers and I think for the rankings , this is a huge help. I mean it's better than being unemployed but definitely something to be aware of and worth questioning why other schools don't need to do it to nearly the same degree.cecrum wrote:Last numbers I saw actually put it closer to 1/4 (Emory has the highest number of school funded positions).
