To clarify, the email I mentioned came from the dean. I received the same response as ^^ from admissions, who was cc'd to the original email I'd directly sent to the dean.jlaw20161 wrote:That's exactly what I was told toomarisacb1012 wrote:I tried and got a response saying they try to make their first offer their best and that they probably won't negotiate until after their first deposit deadline but would keep my request on file.DorcasPond wrote:I got a pretty pointed response saying that I was welcome to submit other offers for them to look at, but any significant increase for someone at "my position" within the class (at and slightly above median) was unlikely.FU2016 wrote:Bump this. I mean...I get it if they're saving money for other folks, but the tone of the response was a huge turn off for me, since it made it sound like I had barely squeaked in and should be counting my lucky stars..

Do I miss much by not going to Admitted Students Day? I'm going to be visiting the campus later on since I can't make it to ASD. But is there anything significant I won't be a part of? Do many people actually go?Manali wrote:Former student. Taking ?s.

Received an email from them saying my application is now under review one month after my file went complete... Anyone else in the same boat?

Thanks for reaching out! While I know there's plenty of hard data on the subject, I was wondering what your personal opinion is on big law prospects at BC vs BU, and how BC does regionally in the category as opposed to solely in Boston.Manali wrote:Former student. Taking ?s.

Same. Surprised that they are digging into the waitlist so early. Then again, I was waitlisted as a reverse splitter on the initial Fast Track, and now am much above both 75th. Any idea when scholarship info might be coming for us?EnviroNerd wrote:Just got in off the waitlist!

Just received aid information. Does anyone here know if they negotiate? I'll look over the thread, but it'd be great if any has personal experience.EnviroNerd wrote:I'm also a reverse splitter lol...probably looking for more high gpa students since it seems they were pretty harsh on people below a certain lsat. Does anyone know if BC does separate need based financial aid? Or is included in the merit based aid?

Question- I attended admitted students day this weekend and did not get the best vibes. I totally support those who want to go into big law, but I personally am very interested in pursuing a career in human rights. Everyone I spoke to was planning on going into corporate, and the student body did not seem diverse. Can anyone speak to the environment for those who are more public interest minded? Will I be the odd one out, or will I find peer and school support? (This is not a slight at those who want to do corporate... You do you! I am just very torn between schools at the moment.)

I guess we didn't get the chance to talk! I was in attendance and am very interested in the public interest route- anecdotally, most people I spoke with were on the same track as well. From their employment numbers, it seems like a reasonable amount of the class ends up working in government or public interest (around 25% I think).klove88 wrote:Question- I attended admitted students day this weekend and did not get the best vibes. I really wanted to attend asw but I had something come up at work, would either of you mind speaking generally about your impression of the school (past the pi aspect)? I guess in terms of atmosphere, how they chose to present themselves, the facilities, etc. If it's more comfortable feel free to pm me.rekoobathetuba wrote:I guess we didn't get the chance to talk! Question: Does anyone know whether you have to formally tell the school your accepting the scholarship offer, or after submitting the deposit, is it something that is assumed?
Thanks

Ugh BC so slow I was finally informed my application was "In Review" on March 29 (6 days ago).
The e-mail says "A decision should be rendered on your file within four to six weeks."
From people's experience, does it really take 4 to 6 weeks for them to render a decision once your application goes "In Review"? Especially at this late stage of the game when deposit deadlines are fast approaching at many schools...

It definitely felt like 4-6 weeks but I was under review 3/12 and waitlisted 3/28. Complete 2/12.Solon wrote:Ugh BC so slow I was finally informed my application was "In Review" on March 29 (6 days ago).

I'll agree that there definitely seemed to be a focus on corporate law over PI--but the former is certainly more what I'm looking for and BC has a strong reputation.
Otherwise, I thought the event was a little sanitized. They said the right things, but after visiting a few other places, it seemed a little less authentic and organic. It was quite straight-laced, but I think they were just trying to put their best foot forward.
Facilities were fine. The separate law school thing is a bit strange and it made campus feel a little like a high school. (There is literally a high school in the same plot of land). It felt a little smaller than I expected and was very, very residential. As someone who doesn't own a car, I feel like it might be a bit challenging to get around.
But, I still feel like this is near the top of my list. The mock class was strong, the students seemed intelligent and motivated, the alumni network was constantly mentioned, and their placement numbers are quite impressive.

I totally agree with this account. It was a vanilla event, but the mock class was undeniably fascinating. Their numbers are so good that I can't help but consider them as one of my top choices, but I am hoping that the atmosphere is more down to earth than was presented.

Re: Boston College Law Class of 2019 applicants
I attended a real class when I visited campus at another point (and also attended ASW Saturday) and I can say that from my experience the actual law school class and life during real classes was much more 'down to earth'. The students were genuinely nice and made an effort to make contact with me as soon as I sat down and they recognized that I wasn't a member of their section, which is something I haven't found at other schools I visited--although I might be biased since I also went to BC undergrad...(so if anyone has any other questions feel free to PM me because I have contacts who are law students now who aren't student ambassadors who can answer questions more honestly.klove88 wrote:mke88 wrote:I'm not either of those posters, but I was at the ASW this Saturday.Purplepen wrote:I really wanted to attend asw but I had something come up at work, would either of you mind speaking generally about your impression of the school (past the pi aspect)? This is good to hear. I'm deciding between BC and BU and I've heard about BC's student body having such a friendly reputation but I didn't know if it was true or not. If their scholarship offers end up being equal I'll probably pick BC because of this reputation. It seems to have a community feel to it.doubleeagle19 wrote:I attended a real class when I visited campus at another point (and also attended ASW Saturday) and I can say that from my experience the actual law school class and life during real classes was much more 'down to earth'.
