35k/year-- 165, 3.9
Honestly guys, I don't understand why everyone is so secretive about their stats. Just post them. Way easier than having to PM a million people lol.

Anyone have any idea what percent of the class gets full schollys or any anecdata regarding negotiating up to a full scholly?
I'm seeing lots of 105k offers, but that probably still means graduating with six figure debt =/

Complete 1/5, status checker has said "application complete" ever since, no date or changes otherwise. Wtf.

Can't find the link at the moment but their ABA disclosure shows the average grants and how many were given out. From what I remember, more than half of students receive grants and the median amount is $20k180kickflip wrote:Anyone have any idea what percent of the class gets full schollys or any anecdata regarding negotiating up to a full scholly?

This might've been mentioned but are scholarship offers sent with the admission packet, or are thy sent later?

You are correct, BU's median grant was 20k/year

105 k would be 35k/year which is only about 12k/yr short of full tuition. Most of the time a full scholly doesn't cover COL from what I know.180kickflip wrote:Anyone have any idea what percent of the class gets full schollys or any anecdata regarding negotiating up to a full scholly?

Re: Boston University c/o 2018 (2014-2015)
Guys serious question:
I was offered 35k/year from BU and 40k/year from ASU. I was planning to ask BU if they'd be willing to match ASU, since BU is my first choice. How would you go about doing it? How soon should I ask? Should I call, write, email? What do you think is the "proper" way to handle the negotiation process?

The COL not being included is sort of why I'm so interested =/RaiderRed wrote:105 k would be 35k/year which is only about 12k/yr short of full tuition. I figure tuition will be 47k first year, 49k second year, and 51k third year. Add interest while in school and loan fees, and I think 35k a year scholly will leave at least 50k in non-COL debt. Add a tightly budgeted 3 years in Boston (and the interest charges on those COL loans), and I feel like 35k/year scholly leaves you over 100k in total debt pretty easy.
For me, I'm not sure BU is worth that. I live down the street from them and I'd love to stay here, but I'm a tough combo of cheap and debt averse, so I need max $ lol. The difference between full scholly and 35k/yr may be the difference between having to take out loans and not for me, so that could swing things in BU's favor quick.

Wait until late Feb/early March then negotiate through an email noting your other offers. Spivey said if you ask too early, it's not as much in your favor as right before seat deposits.lujanj7 wrote:Guys serious question:

180: that makes sense try to negotiate up a bit. Maybe see if they will match another offer you have or something. Debt aversion is not a bad thing at all. But as the cycle goes on you may be in a better place to get more money. That COL is killer.

I know the COL is bad. I am actually very fortunate and have decided on BU because my fiance lives there and so if I go to school there I will be living with him. We have been in a long distance relationship for a while now so it will be nice to relocate to where he is. Plus it's the best program I've gotten into thus far.... So it's a win win. But I would still like to minimize the cost of tuition as much as possible.

Re: Boston University c/o 2018 (2014-2015)
Yeah. I've already mentally/financially prepared myself for 3 years of COL, but I'm really struggling to wrap my head around the school costs. I'm a bit ahead of myself in terms of negotiating since I haven't received my initial offer yet, but I got 35k/yr from a peer school, so it's sort of what I'm expecting.RaiderRed wrote:Wait until late Feb/early March then negotiate through an email noting your other offers. Scholly. 20k per year, pretty bummed about that. Like BU don't want to pay 25k+ a year in tuition plus living expenses when there are more generous offers on the table.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
