Agreed - I think it's weird too and am trying to figure out the logic behind it.
Because I'm a paranoid person and just got into a more highly ranked school, I immediately saw the email and thought hmm...maybe ___ told Duke they let me in and now Duke's like "don't forget about us! We're letting you in too!"
But that's probably not a realistic train of thought.

So I talked to one of the Duke representatives at a Law Fair. I was already provisionally admitted, so I asked about the interviews. She said that the interviews are a new addition, and they still werent sure how they were going to handle all the interviews in December. She said she was one of the people who would be doing the interviews, but that the details weren't set in stone.
Based on that conversation, I'm not surprised by this email. I think they thought it was a good idea, but realized logistically it didn't make sense / wasnt feasible. I imagine they will try again next year, but this year they decided to go with the tried and true method they have used before and ease into the interviews.

So basically the interviews are just for scholarships now?

Does Duke provide good need based financial aid?

well I've never heard of them missing the ten days. I would expect something tomorrow regardless.

How did you guys set up your resume?
Duke Law FAQ wrote:Your resume provides us with a straightforward way to learn what your interests and activities have been beyond the classroom. If you have worked during or after college, of course you will include this information. But we are also interested in college and community activities that may give us a better sense of how you would be involved in the Duke Law community. Please include information about these, in as much detail as you feel is necessary. You do not need to limit yourself to a single page, but please use good judgment.
Did you guys really de-emphasize your WE? Did you write one sentence descriptions of each extracurricular activity?

No, I had 2-6 bullet points under each activity or work experience. Mine fit on two pages. I basically took my 1 page business resume and expanded it to include more of my softs / work experiences (as oppose to tailoring each resume to each job application).

I have around twenty extracurricular organizations and current volunteer work that I could list on the resume. That seems like it is going to be just way, way too much if I have to put more than one line on each activity. Do you think I should just distill it down to the most important extracurriculars that I did?

I would say the distillation option sounds good. Might as well call them and ask, but at the end of the day, it's hard to imagine that listing five, as opposed to twenty, ECs is going to make/break your app.

I just did the math. Even with a $35k/yr scholarship (which is perhaps overly optimistic) the COA at repayment is absolutely insane. I don't understand how anyone who isn't BigLaw-focused considers this an option.

are you talking about any T14 or Duke specifically? Duke really does not have particularly high COA compared to other top schools

Using lawschool22's COA calculator, I got roughly $124k at repayment, and $179k paid on a ten year plan. I understand this isn't extravagant compared to other T-14 schools, but that doesn't stop it from scaring the living shit out of me. I think that it'll end up being either a school with a better LRAP, or a lower ranked school with a higher scholly for me.

ah okay. I read your original post as more of a blanket statement "no one who's not interested in biglaw should go to duke," which seemed extreme given Mordecai scholarships, other circumstances, etc.
I def feel you on not wanting to take on any debt. those huge numbers can be seriously terrifying

I don't know how manual it is for them to update the "under review" status, so maybe they just forgot?
ETA: Not that I don't completely understand your concern!
I broke down and sent an email checking on the status at 6pm. I woke up this morning to an acceptance that came in at 10:30pm! And yes, I start work early so I do go to bed before 10:30...
congrats! what does the email say (now that they don't seem to be doing the provisional thing anymore)? is it just an official acceptance?
