So does this mean that acceptances are going out via email now? Or should I still be obsessively checking my mailbox?Thorcogan wrote:I received an email. Can't really explain the short turn around since I don't believe my numbers are that amazing, but I am not complaining at all. Waiting to hear about a potential scholarship or not.
You'll get it in the mail in a few days.

I had already accepted at W&M and sent in the seat deposit before those rankings leaked. Decision was between W&M and W&L. Rankings weren't a huge factor in my decision but yikes!

Just be careful letting this news strongly dictate your choice. You know it is a relatively screwed up system if a school is able to jump that much in one year. I'm guessing they probably got some massive donation, drastically raising their money spent per student.

The system is nowhere near perfect, definitely, but it is the system. W&M was also in the 20s for a while up until a few years ago when they dipped into the 30s.vanburenboys wrote:pauly_biegler wrote:hahaha pretty wild eh? Hey guys, I'm just going to edit like this so that the info stays in one post. I got the mail today and was offered 12K per year, so there is definitely a some money still left. Don't lose hope.Thorcogan wrote:In today.

As for the people wondering whether to wait on an email or status checker, I can't really help because I don't know which came first. I just woke up Sunday morning to an email telling me I was in.
For those of you that are on hold pending further review. I obviously do not have any inside information so take my word with a grain of salt, but it seems likely that they have many good candidates for not as many positions, and are going to do another round of looking through anything.

they did not just start having school-funded positions this year. Unless there was a huge uptick in school-funded positions, I think that there had to be an increase in something else. I'm very eager to look at their employment stats when they're released (I think March 15th) to see what the year over year differences are. I know you all are overachievers and may do this anyway, but I highly recommend looking at the ABA required disclosures for employment stats for all of the schools you're considering. Outside of the somewhat arbitrary rankings, looking at those ABA disclosures is a great way to actually get a sense of where the school's grads are going.sl5uw13 wrote:vanburenboys wrote:pauly_biegler wrote:hahaha pretty wild eh? Yes, they did just start having school funded positions. I go there.

I don't when it starts to affect the rankings but 2011 http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school=wm&class=2011 they didn't have any and the next year 2012 http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school=wm they did.
eta: this year's ranking use 2012 stats because 2013 stats aren't out yet.

I am glad that I picked it over the other Virginia schools (sans UVA). Its laid back, and i have no real complaints. Still job searching as a 3L, but that is really because I want specific things and have been willing to forego other options. I dont hear many people freaking out about jobs. I think most people are turning out just fine. I like the people, and the town is nice. I wasnt really looking for a city.

For all of us in the "held for further review" party, is the consensus that we hear back mid march? Maybe the end of this week? Or are we looking at later?

Sent mine last weekend, and got an email that I should hear back by Friday. Super quick turnaround.
