First I would refer to Asha's post on diversity statements: http://blogs.law.yale.edu/blogs/admissi ... world.aspxgold4canada wrote:I want to ask how I can submit a Diversity Statement to Yale since there's no slot to upload one on the LSAC application. Thanks in advance
If you still plan to submit one, you just submit it as an addendum. There is no specific portal for diversity statements as far as I know.
Hope this is helpful!!

Question for everyone. Harvard's need-based policies seem to indicate $180k-ish cumulative student/parent income as the cut-off for need-based aid (http://www.law.harvard.edu/current/sfs/ ... ytype.html), but I haven't been able to find a similar number for Yale. I've seen people refer to being in the financial "grey area" but I have no idea what that is....

From reading the blog, it sounds like not everyone goes to faculty review. If I recall, Dean Rangappa does an initial review and weeds out a lot of people and automatically admits a handful before sending the winnowed-down list of "maybes" to the faculty. So presumably the people who have heard already are folks with 4.0 + 180 + solid essays and LOR + >658 blind orphans saved by your non-profit foundation, folks in other words who are just hands-down definitely getting in and the Dean notifies immediately. Though I guess it's also possible that these are people who submitted early enough to make it through a full faculty review and come back with 12s as Lochner posits.LochnerMonster wrote:They admit very few students early on, and then the majority of students from mid February through March and into April.patfeeney wrote:I'm guessing they limit admits until they are all sent in... maybe 5 or 10 a month until deadline?paglababa wrote:So I don't understand this whole not gaining an advantage by applying early deal with Yale. YLS is unique in that three professors separately rate each application on a scale of 2 - 4. Then, those with a 12 are admitted, and most with an 11 are admitted. Since application submission date has no effect on your application rating, it doesn't matter when you apply.
Professors are used to seeing applications. They don't need to see the rest of the current year's applicant pool to put you in context.
Since there simply will never be enough 12's to fill a class, my guess is that they can admit all of those people right away. Then, they can pool the 11's and sort through those towards the end of the cycle and admit an appropriate amount given space constraints. This is pure speculation, though.
My impression is that faculty review starts early (usually a couple are admitted in December), but professors are really slow and continue working throughout the cycle.

So, I know that all of the other rejections on LSN for this cycle are mistaken carryovers from last year but could there be any truth to this one?

Fwiw, a few months ago I tried to send an update to my application, and they told me that they could add it to my file, but that it wouldn't affect the review process. I got the sense that some profs may have already read over my application, so I probably have a score since I applied so early.IrishJew wrote:From reading the blog, it sounds like not everyone goes to faculty review. So I submitted this week!
Does Yale not even have a status checker? Are they that much of a black box? 'Cause the What to Expect thread had nada info.

That being said, there are plenty of schools whose application-assessment processes don't jive with status checkers and update them perhaps once in the entire cycle (Columbia, UVA, Stanford, and so on), but still provide the tool to placate the neurotics.Asha Rangappa, YLS Associate Dean / Former G-(Wo)man wrote:As some of you start getting antsy awaiting a decision as the end of admissions season approaches, you might have read my first BIJ post from last year, which exhorted you not to call or write to check on your status. I was admittedly grumpy in my second trimester (perpetual nausea will do that to you), and while most of you appreciated, and even found solace in, my tongue-in-cheek humor, it's probably worthwhile giving a more lucid explanation for why status checks don't jive with our admissions process.
Simply put, we only have two statuses (statii?) for applicants: Under Review and [insert your final decision here]. I've detailed how our admissions process works elsewhere, but suffice it to say that if you haven't heard from us, your file is in the pipeline somewhere, being read by someone (a.k.a. Under Review). We can't give more detail than that, so a call or email really just results in frustration for all parties involved since we don't have much to tell you.
