Can anyone elaborate on what any potential disadvantages of the AJD program might be?

1L would be even less fun than with the traditional three-year program on account of the workload. That's the main thing that jumped out at me whenever I've been tempted to consider it.letitloose wrote:Can anyone elaborate on what any potential disadvantages of the AJD program might be?

Forced curve with 20-30 students instead of 40-50. Fewer people receive grades above median.letitloose wrote:Can anyone elaborate on what any potential disadvantages of the AJD program might be?

Re: Northwestern Law C/O 2016 (2012-2013 Applicants)
The main weakness of the AJD in my mind is the lack of a 1L summer job. You will essentially be competing at OCI with people (from NU and other schools) who have all worked a legal job their 1L summer. They will likely be able to talk more intelligently about their interests in the legal field and what they like/don't like. I think it's also a personal disadvantage in that it makes it harder for you to figure out what you want to do (you have to make certain choices like litigation/transactional) much sooner and with less experience than regular JDs do. It also makes it harder to clerk if you're interested in that (although even having a shot at a clerkship as a regular JD is tough).letitloose wrote:Can anyone elaborate on what any potential disadvantages of the AJD program might be?
Fewer grades than regular JDs is also an issue but I would hazard a small one. I think there is may also be a slight skepticism from employers of the AJD program.

Scroll up to my last post. An admissions officer told me that the AJD is not based on rollover admissions and that the adcom waits until all apps are in before starting to evaluate them, they also guarantee a response by feb 1st so I think they will start accepting people on the second week of January.fruitoftheloom wrote:Any idea of when AJD acceptances will start coming? Also any ideas of when AJD students will get information on scholarships? It's tough that we have to make a decision before we probably will have scholarship information from any other schools.

Finally got my off-campus interview assignment. I feel like I screwed myself by interviewing because now my application will be going complete in mid-December instead of like, mid-October!
Really looking forward to impressing the hell out of this Midtown lawyer with my high level of comfort around Midtown lawyers, having worked for many Midtown lawyers (Midtown Midtown Midtown).

Don't worry too much, most schools will probably want to see the December LSAT kids before making the bulk of their admissions decisions. I know conventional wisdom says that it's better to apply earlier...but honestly i think with the current admissions climate of declining apps and high LSAT scores, schools are gonna try and protect themselves by waiting to consider all their options.francesfarmer wrote:Finally got my off-campus interview assignment. I'm sure you're right, and I've already gotten a few acceptances, so I'm not that worried. I'm tempted to wait to interview until after I hear back about my ED app somewhere else but that's just unprofessional.cusenation wrote:Don't worry too much, most schools will probably want to see the December LSAT kids before making the bulk of their admissions decisions. Submitted today, felt like a dick for putting "no intent to interview" on my app. I feel pretty comfortable with my numbers and when I looked at interview locations, they were all 2+ hours away by car.

I am pretty much in the exact same boat. I even sent an email to the admissions staff stating I completed my interview. It was a week ago yesterday and my app is till incomplete. I may give them a call.Cherries2013 wrote:For those of you who did an off-campus interview, how long did it take for you to go complete after the interview?
It took me 6-7 weeks to get an off-campus interview (I know), and now it's been 1 week + since I had it - my app is still incomplete.

6-7 weeks to get an interview? that's brutal...Maybe your interviewer hasn't had a chance to submit/complete their evaluation yet? I'd imagine it's one of the variables associated with the off-campus interview that isn't an issue with on-campus interviews.

It really only took me 6-7 weeks overall. I was given an interviewer 3 weeks in and then I scheduled the interview three weeks later. There was no alumni in my city so I waited until I went home for Thxgiving.cusenation wrote:timeandspace11 wrote:I am pretty much in the exact same boat. Ohh i see. Yeah my original interview in Cambridge apparently had to cancel, so I had to wait to be re-assigned. But I'm in Boston so it was fairly quicktimeandspace11 wrote:It really only took me 6-7 weeks overall. I was given an interviewer 3 weeks in and then I scheduled the interview three weeks later. I imagine Boston would have quite a few NU alumni. Did you send in your app before or after the interview?

I sent my application 2 weeks after my interview, but I had no idea I had to report my interview date, so I didn't end up doing that until the day before I submitted. I went complete 3 days after

Just got out of my interview. I drove in and did mine on campus with a 3L. It was really laid back, and the campus is gorgeous. I highly encourage on-campus interviews for those who are able.

Just FYI, I think campus tours are suspended until next term at this point (maybe at the end of this week). We tour guides are a tad busy.
