I don't think when you apply has all that much to do with it - at least not while we're still so early in the cycle. I'd imagine they slot new applicants into the queue based on their numbers, and some early applicants might not get a JS1 for weeks. But if you have relatively competitive numbers you'll probably get one eventually. I wouldn't sweat it too much. I want one just as much as everyone else but until we get later into the cycle I don't think its panic time yetcc91 wrote:Did people who have received JS1 invites apply first day app opened or close to it? Congrats to all the new JS1s!
No surprises here, although I was wondering what was taking them so long to invite you all

Saw an overlooked Harvard email in my inbox from yesterday and my heart stopped for a second... but, alas, it was just about an infosession they are having nearby.... This is stressful.

Any idea about the amount of time between a JS1 and a (possible) JS2?Lavitz wrote:Congrats to all the new JS1s!

I would say a few weeks. For the last three cycles, the first acceptances have come out the Monday before Thanksgiving.bernaldiaz wrote:Any idea about the amount of time between a JS1 and a (possible) JS2?
Edit: upon further research, changed "two" to "three"

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Hey, everyone! HLS 1L here. Just wanted to say good luck to all the JS1's and all the applicants still waiting.
I had a very, very long gap between my horrible JS1 and my JS2. So try not to worry if a significant amount of time passes. Everything will work out in the end.
The absolute most important thing to remember is to be yourself. Sounds stupid, but mistakes happen when you try to sound like someone you are not. None of us has any idea what JS is looking for, so don't try to guess!
PM me if y'all need anything!

Seeing some of you getting JS1s is making me jelly lol. Congrats.
At least i don't have to keep checking my email because i don't expect one. I'll be waiting patiently for what seat you guys may leave unfilled. Maybe then they'll reconsider me after looking me over a dozen times.

How many JS1's do they usually give out?

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
It depends on the rest of your application (LORs, personnal statement, etc.) but with your numbers I'd say you have very good chances of being in the next batchesbruwinning24 wrote:3.98, 171, top 25 undergrad. Went complete on 10/10. Chances of JS1?

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
It's hard to say it depends on thr number of applications they received. The previous years, they were interviewing a little number of applicants that were almost all accepted, but this year they will interview more applicants... If you go at ths HLS admissions blog you can read about this, it's in the recent posts.hellohi wrote:How many JS1's do they usually give out?

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
sorry if this has been discussed already. do you guys know how long they interview for (just this month, or through dec/jan etc.)?
i will not be able to submit my applications until one of my recommenders finishes his letter next week, or maybe even later, as he can be somewhat disorganized, though he is awesome--i am worried it is getting late.
also whoa--are all accepted applicants interviewed? i thought i was seeing that on page 1 but didn't know that before.

To answer your two questions, though, it seems like they'll be doing interviews on a rolling basis right on through the end, and any accepted applicants will do an interview.
Good luck!

Don't think it's related completely to numbers, I'm above both 75 percentiles and went complete 10/10..fingers crossed there isn't something wrong with another part of app- Here's to hoping for early this week!trojandave wrote:I don't think when you apply has all that much to do with it - at least not while we're still so early in the cycle. Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Yeah I'm sure there's more than just numbers at play (but since we all know they're important, it sounds like you're in great shape.) What I was getting at earlier actually goes along with what you're saying - I think they slot people into the interview list by a lot of factors that go beyond simply the application complete date. In other words, it's not worth worrying "I went complete before that guy but didn't get an interview - does that mean I'm rejected?" Of course not, maybe that guy has interesting work experience, a unique degree, or is from a part of the country that is underrepresented... Maybe JS wants to break up the monotony of numbers-based interviews with people who have really unique backgrounds. It could be anything.cc91 wrote: Don't think it's related completely to numbers, I'm above both 75 percentiles and went complete 10/10..fingers crossed there isn't something wrong with another part of app- Here's to hoping for early this week!
But there's so much time left, and with only two small batches of JS1s released so far and way more of us qualified TLSers than there are spots, some people have to be left out. This should all even out over the next few weeks though as they release more JS1s, so I think worrying about your status based solely on your complete date right now is a waste of energy. Come March we'll all be in anyway!
