Hey hey. WL is not a bad thing! Initially, I felt the same way you did but Berk's waitlist is fairly small and if you are a CA resident (which I am not) you have a fair shot at getting in.

Gonna post some more information about this in the OP once FR2 winds down for good.

That's encouraging! I can get a really kick-ass LOR that wasn't in my app to include with an LOCI. Would that help? I'm a CA resident and UC student.

I'll tell you what I know based on reading TLS past WL cycles. I personally think that you are in a good position based on the information I've seen before. I would send in the LOCI and that LOR too. Berk says that additional materials do not help but I think it can never hurt to show continued interest.

After all, the school wants you to attend if admitted so expressing that you will do so can't hurt you unless you are overly obnoxious about it.

WL now too via status checker. Really disappointed as Berkeley's my top choice. If anyone could provide any insight as to how big the wait list for Berkeley is and how it works, that would be really appreciated. Thanks.

"We do not provide precise rank positions because individual rankings change often as other wait-listed applicants withdraw to pursue other options. Approximately 300 people ultimately will comprise the waiting list."

Yep... Ironically, I was about to email a LOCI yesterday before my email inbox informed me that I was WL and I read the supplemental document. Not feeling too good about prospects right now.
