Well unless you're only applying to NU it shouldn't be too big of a deal becasue most other schools require 2-3, but for the sake of clarification here's the tl;dr
- the application tiago is referring to was from last year
- the lor USED TO BE optional last year, but ONLY BECAUSE they had the CPE as an alternate option.
- now that the CPE is gone, the LOR is the only option
- they require 1 lor
This is a non-issue though. I highly doubt anyone is going to send in 0 LORs. But the website does specifically say 1 LOR is a required item, and explicitly states that it is required for all applicants. Go with the website, as I assume that is the most recently updated. Things may have been optional last year, but we're not worried about that since we're applying this year.
I appreciate this tl; dr

New Johann tweet to cement what's been discussed:
"To app stalkers: CPE only required for AJD. 1 LOR required for JD program. One of many changes to the process."
Many changes?...

Haha this was my first thought as well. It's a symbiotic relationship in that he can watch us obsess and fret over getting in, and we get our confusions sorted out.
I haven proven that I can handle the winters...I hope that gets me an extra credit point.

Last year Johann called someone out on twitter (not by name, of course) for having a parent call the admissions office for them. Johann does not suffer fools.

Yeah, seriously, I haven't even shared where I'm applying to my parents really. Ridiculous!

I booked mine for Sept 25th back in July banking on getting an appointment on that specific day. That's why, in Johann's words, I've been stalking the appointment website. I kept calling the front desk to bug them about it too... probably just a coincidence that they only posted that week today but I've been pretty persistent.

I called them today and they said a lot more will open up on 9/1.
The cheapest flight I've found from SFO to CHI so far is 270 with tax on 10/11

Many changes?...
Does this mean that there's no point in RD applicants submitting CPEs, or that it's required for AJD and recommended for RD or not recommended for RD?

My interpretation of what the admissions office guy told me on the phone is that CPEs will only be accepted for AJD. I think it will all become clear when the app is released.
