What did the e-mail prior to acceptance say?

Sure, some of the "Why UVA" letters are probably not all that genuine. That being said, if you are willing to write another page of (hopefully good) writing that probably means you are at least a little more interested in UVA than the applicant who doesn't.bleylaw wrote:im not saying its dumb to write them (thats what they want right?) but it seems insane that they don't realize theyre not really all that genuinesdwhodat wrote:I haven't heard anything yet. Does anyone what the rule is pertaining to post acceptance gpa? Meaning, once your are accepted, do you have to keep your gpa at the same level or does it matter after you get in? I haven't heard anything, if anyone knows please let me know.

They're referred to as stipulations and no, t14 don't have emglcoupe wrote:Does anyone what the rule is pertaining to post acceptance gpa? Edit: I'm an idiot and misread. There isn't a hard number but the consensus is that, barring a catastrophic drop with fails, you'll be fine

But it's gotta be reasonable right? It doesn't really matter. I haven't heard about rescinded admissions.glcoupe wrote:Does anyone what the rule is pertaining to post acceptance gpa? Schools ask for updated transcripts prior to the beginning of 1L, but this is just to make sure that you actually graduated.
Since you're not sending your transcripts to LSAC, it won't affect the GPA that law schools have to report for USNWR purposes.

Not exactly. Stipulations are connected to scholarships, e.g., a GPA stipulation of 3.2 in LS to retain your scholarship. But it is true that T14 schools do not have these scholarship stipulations.vincanity1 wrote:They're referred to as stipulations and no, t14 don't have emglcoupe wrote:Does anyone what the rule is pertaining to post acceptance gpa? I'm not entirely sure the Why UVA letter is as important as people say it is. I got offered a Dean's Scholarship on Friday and I didn't write a "Why UVA" letter, although I did have a Why UVA paragraph in my PS that was pretty sincere since I am quite interested in UVA. But I said nothing in that paragraph that one couldn't glean from their website in 5 minutes.ThomasMN wrote:Sure, some of the "Why UVA" letters are probably not all that genuine. Also, the woman who called me on Friday did say that I needed to remain in good academic standing to keep the scholarship for all 3 years. I'm not sure if that means passing or something more (e.g. 3.3+ GPA)

All T14 schools have that. It basically means "don't fail out".Schola wrote: Also, the woman who called me on Friday did say that I needed to remain in good academic standing to keep the scholarship for all 3 years. I'm not sure if that means passing or something more (e.g. 3.3+ GPA)

This is perhaps the wrong forum to ask this, but I am wondering if anyone knows whether it is likely that I will be able to bargain UVA up from 90 to something closer to a full ride if I get into a YHS? Given my life situation and career aspirations--essentially, I don't want to do big law--money will be something that matters quite a bit in deciding where I go.

I'm not sure how successful leveraging an acceptance is for getting more $$. But, if you got into YHS, you should take that in a heartbeat over UVA full tuition scholarship.Schola wrote:This is perhaps the wrong forum to ask this, but I am wondering if anyone knows whether it is likely that I will be able to bargain UVA up from 90 to something closer to a full ride if I get into a YHS? I just got an email about autumn and a student resource I can contact--does this have any bearing on my admission chances or mean anything whatsoever?

I also just got that email about here is a UVA 2L to contact and enjoy your fall, too. Is this good news? If not it seems kinda lolzy to be like, "contact this UVA 2L for any Qs about how great the school is." Oh, but enjoy your WL/ rejection.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Hi all! I applied to UVA last cycle, but, unfortunately, didn't receive the good news. I'm retaking the LSAT in December and applying to UVA once I receive my score in January.
So, does anybody know how UVA views multiple LSAT scores? I've read the TLS interview w/ Dean Trujillo, but I'm wondering if Mr. Dugas and Mr. Faulk are evaluating apps any differently.
Thanks!

My guess is that you will get an email prior to this change, so take it for what it's worth.
Are all seat deposits $1000?!?!?! Do we need to budget for this? How many incoming 1Ls have $1000 laying around?!

It's my understanding that $1000 seat deposit is pretty typical. UVA's is credited towards your first semester tuition, FWIW, but I imagine that's pretty standard too.

No. The letter I received stated that the deposits must be paid online, using a credit card, and that I would be receiving more specific instructions on how to do this in January via email.
