Re: U. of Pacific 2011 Applicants
does anybody know how open the university is to negotiate scholarships? If so how does one go about doing that? I just checked the cost of attendance and the amount of loans required and it scared me tremendously, to the point that I might take a year off and retake the lsat for a higher score.

Yup! I just got home from work and there was a nice big packet in my mailbox! Status checker said it was mailed on 3/14 and I'm in Tucson, AZ...if that gives you a time frame

I also called here today and got nothing except that if you have received acceptances from other schools and are interested in UoP, to send a copy of the letter and this may expedite your application, because they plan to keep making decisions all the way into late May.....

Re: U. of Pacific 2011 Applicants
I was at the open house last Friday. It was nice to see the school. Thoughts: friendly, laid back, good teachers (the ones i interacted with anyway), et cetera. I actually think Sac is a pretty good town.
One thing that bothers me is: they advertise that around 50% of entering students have some sort of scholarship money. 52% last year in fact. You have to be in the top 1/3 of the class to keep the award. (Now, to be fair, some of the 52% are small awards for commitment to public service -- which are renewable regardless of class rank.) So, excepting those public service awards, a minimum of 17% will lose their scholarships. That's hard to deal with.

Just got my admit packet -- $7,500 per year. I got double that at Santa Clara and triple that at SMU. That's disappointing. Hmmmm.

If you're getting offered more $$ from Santa Clara, you've gotta go w/Santa Clara. The better school w/more money, easy pick.swilson215 wrote:Just got my admit packet -- $7,500 per year. I got double that at Santa Clara and triple that at SMU. That's disappointing. Hmmmm.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, at a minimum, it's actually ~35% that will lose their scholarships.twozeroseven wrote:So, excepting those public service awards, a minimum of 17% will lose their scholarships. That's hard to deal with.

That's worse, to look at it that way. More telling anyway. I meant that 17% of the entire class will be SOL. You mean 35% of the scholarship recipients I assume.Compose wrote:Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, at a minimum, it's actually ~35% that will lose their scholarships.twozeroseven wrote:So, excepting those public service awards, a minimum of 17% will lose their scholarships. So, was there any answer to the scholarship negotiation question a few posts up? I'm interested in seeing if anyone has tried this at McGeorge yet.

Re: U. of Pacific 2011 Applicants
I personally have not. Trying to decide on a course of action. Either will withdraw or negotiate for more dollars and/or no stipulations. I don't have tons of leverage though, only a couple of 1st tier acceptances with no scholly.swilson215 wrote:So, was there any answer to the scholarship negotiation question a few posts up? I agree with the above posters; I got a decent sized scholarship but I'm scared of taking that much debt on. Does any body know if they offer other kind of scholarships later on through financial aid I.e diversity scholarships, etc.? Or do they even negotiate?

Re: U. of Pacific 2011 Applicants
Anyone with a "Decision Letter Sent" under the mailing section get a rejection? My friend got a rejection letter on 3/11/11 after going DR on 3/09/11. He never recieved a "decision letter sent" under the mailings section. My status is DR, I have a "Decision Letter Sent" on 3/21/11 and still have not received anything?

Does anyone know if there has been any movement on the waitlist or generally when the waitlist is reviewed?
