I got admitted 3/3, and I noticed my status checker said "Honors Scholarship Mailed" on 3/9...I still haven't received it yet though.LaProfe14 wrote:when did admitted people get a scholarship letter/email? and i believe mine came in my initial admittance packet, but i could be wrong..it doesn't hurt to just email/call them and just ask if a decision has been made regarding whether or not you will be receiving a scholarship

Re: Hofstra 2011
I was accepted back in December and just received a scholarship letter today.
I wrote an informal e-mail inquiring about merit scholarships about a week and a half ago. The person that replied told me I would have to write an appeal to the admissions committee to be reconsidered. I haven't done that yet.
I'm wondering if the letter I got is a coincidence or if my informal e-mail got passed on as the formal appeal. Either way, I'm happy.

Scholarship and need access are two different things right? Asides from being admitted, what other paperwork is there to do? None asides need access (if applicable) correct?

Yeah I thought it strange that I found out on Saturday morning. But my file was beeing looked at all week. Went to bed last night still said I was IR and this morning I woke up and it says congrats you're accepted. Not sure how likely I am to be going there though unless I get good money.

How long have you been IR? Otherwise how did you know they were reviewing your file? I'm a little confused since I sent mine 1/30 and been in review twice after. With the latest being 2/22.
ps. Thanks for taking the time to answer my q's

Re: Hofstra 2011
I actually applied, what I consider late. According to the status checker my application was received on 2/21. I checked it on Tuesday of this week, 3/15, and it said file with committee. And then just this morning:
Decision Status: Accepted - Congratulations!
Decision Status Date: 3/19/2011
I'm not sure what the hold up on your application could be. I'm not some super amazing 4.0/180 student, who they were trying to jump on before HYS accepts me. I actually have some fairly ugly numbers in terms of gpa/LSAT scores. I think a combination of URM status and my research experience got me in. Hope that answers some of your questions, if you have anymore I'll gladly answer them.

Thanks again! I'm a URM as well, but my numbers are subpar and I went to an Unconventional school as well. So I'm hoping that they accept me.jmill wrote:I actually applied, what I consider late. No problem. If you PM me I can let you know my numbers and how you compare with me. If that might help you.singingkris wrote:Thanks again! Re: Hofstra 2011
I went and was actually kind of impressed..They had a wide variety of things you could choose to go to during the day (different mock classes, financial aid sessions, student life, etc.) but that was pretty much all it was..then there was a luncheon at the end where they got a successful alum to speak to try to convince you to go there pretty much lolMirandaHobbs wrote:Did anybody go to the accepted students day today?
I did like the fact that even though it is on an undergrad campus, its really on an end of the campus where it seems like there wont be much distraction from all of the undergrads that are for the most part on the other side of campus

I went as well; I also was impressed by the school. I just wanted to see someone elses perspective on the day. I got a scholorship for Hofstra but not much and I want to try and get more... Has anyone negotiated a better scholorship with them yet?

Re: Hofstra 2011
I emailed to ask about that last week and they said that I would submit a lengthy appeal letter with copies of all other scholarships offered..i got the impression that they don't really increase scholarships..but there's always a chance i guess if you have a better offer from a higher ranked schoolMirandaHobbs wrote:I went as well; I also was impressed by the school.
