And I think someone made the point earlier -- nobody has received an acceptance, waitlist, or denial from Emory yet, so speculation on their admittance policies is pretty on-topic. (at least moreso than your rejection from Berkeley).

Hey just jumping in, there are 16 pages of posts on this thread so I may be hitting a point that came up 8 pages ago...sorry
Anyone hear back from Emory yet!? Anyone know of my chances with a 165/3.92 + soft factors? It's February and I applied back in November...should I be worried?

There are probably a million questions you could have asked that would have been acceptable. That was the only one that wouldn't be.ericw1 wrote:Hey just jumping in, there are 16 pages of posts on this thread so I may be hitting a point that came up 8 pages ago...sorry

Unless its sarcasm. If so, genius.

The entire 16 pages have been about us not hearing back yet, if you picked any of them you would have gotten your answer.ericw1 wrote:Hey just jumping in, there are 16 pages of posts on this thread so I may be hitting a point that came up 8 pages ago...sorry

sorry if this has been discussed...but the email said scholly info would be included in the acceptance notice. any idea if that's it, or if there's any way to qualify afterwards? emory seems like such an anomaly in this entire cycle and i can't figure out if i like it or not!

Re: Emory 2011
Ummm, no, that's not the case. "T-14" modifies the noun "options". "Other" is an adjective that modifies the noun phrase "T-14 options". His phrasing isn't vague, it is wrong, and I agree that adding a comma would fix the error. Let me illustrate so that you understand the appropriate interpretation.fatduck wrote:
T-14 is used as an adjective modifying the phrase "other options"
his phrasing is a little vague (a comma between "other" and "t-14" would have been clearer) but the fact that we all know t-14 refers to the top 14 schools in the us news rankings should lead you to the correct interpretation
The original statement was this: "There are plenty of students here who chose Emory over other t-14 options." Let's substitute simpler terms for a clear example.
Try this: "Plenty of people chose water over other alcoholic beverages." Don't you see how this is completely different from, "Plenty of people chose water over other, alcoholic beverages"? It completely changes the meaning of the sentence. Anyway, I know that you know this, but TLS is no place to defend sloppy grammar. We are going to top law schools and therefore we must be anal

keep in mind yourself that:fatduck wrote:keep in mind that you posted a graph thatCade McNown wrote: Just for comparison, please take a look at what truly holistic admissions looks like. NOTE THE LACK OF ANY GREEN VERTICAL LINE!!!!!!

a.) has LSAT scores on the x-axis
b.) is from a school that places more emphasis on gpa
a) a vertical line in the coordinate plane is a set of points that share the same x coordinate. As you've pointed out, LSN places the lsat on the x-axis, so a vertical acceptance line indicates a strong lsat cutoff, and therefore markedly atomistic admissions.
b) Berkeley really places no more emphasis on gpa. It admits students with better grades because it is a better school. Even if it were true that Berkeley places more emphasis on grades, there would have to be a horizontal green line as clear as Emory's vertical line to suggest its numbers are just as numbers driven.
c) in case you want more evidence, please see these other graphs. Note that only WashU--the most notoriously numbers lsat driven law school--has a graph that approaches Emory's.

d) me and my 168 are perfectly fine with Emory's decision criteria.

LOL OK
lets please stop arguing for/against emory having a holistic admissions process
it (1) can't be proven since the ad-dean himself said the LSN numbers were awry (2) doesn't matter since decisions are rolling in this week anyway

Here's an excerpt from an e-mail that I received from Mr. Rosenzweig on Saturday. Sounds like it should be soon.

The information from emory is neither inaccurate nor misleading. It is simply impressively imprecise.
