Out of curiosity, how is wait-list handled for ED, does anybody know? On the ED form it says that decisions can be accept, reject or wait-list and it brought an interesting thought to my mind... if they WL me on ED, and, say, Northwestern accepts me, and then UCLA pulls me off the WL, does that UCLA acceptance pre-empt the NW acceptance because it is/was ED? It seems like "wait list" and a binding "early decision" are mutually exclusive, since the idea of an early decision is so that you know where you're going early. A WL is just... a WL.

Anyone have thoughts on this?
My guess is that you are no longer bound to UCLA. Most Early Decision contracts say that you are put into the regular admissions pool if you are wait listed. With that being said, it seems that you are no longer under any obligation because they didn't fulfill their promise to give you an "Early Decision".
Unless their "early decision" was a "decision" to wait-list me, and it came "early." So whether I LIKE it or not, it was both early and a decision, so I am just stuck with their decision until they decide to make a new decision (accept or ding). Probably over thinking that one. LOL... but at this point I feel so mind-screwed that I hardly know which way is up anymore.
I was ED and was waitlisted last year. Basically, a WL means all ED obligations are dissolved and you're free to accept admission offers elsewhere, even if UCLA offers you admission off of the WL later. And a WL decision when you're an ED applicant doesn't mean you get put into the regular pool for reassessment - you have to wait with all of the other RD waitlist people until June or so.

But keep in mind that this is only UCLA's policy and other schools may do things differently. Hope this helps!

Excellent MsChoi, thanks a bunch for that personal experience, and was exactly what I was hoping to get in terms of a succinct answer.

By the by, did you get accepted into UCLA?

For the record: No scholarship on phone 100% means no scholarship in the packet.

:( Its certainly gonna make my choices more complicated. I can't say whether or not you can negotiate scholarships going forward.

You can. I've heard UCLA does consider other offers. Anecdotally, I know someone who had an initial small offer that ballooned after they told LA about an offer a higher ranked school made

Key here being higher ranked school. I'm guessing most people who don't get anything will only have money from worse schools.

So if there's no scholarship info with the acceptance packet then there's no chance of a scholarship offer coming later (unless you negotiate with an offer from a better school)? Is this true of all schools? Sorry, just not sure how it works.

No, i think UCLA is in the minority with awarding money with the acceptance phone call. Most accept first and then award scholarship money later on, I believe. But different schools do do things differently.

OK, I see. Thanks. Kind of disappointing because paying sticker won't be easy if that's what it comes down to.

I don't know officially- I'm considering calling to ask about it, especially since I know from LSN and here that people with very very similar stats were offered ~1/3 schollies. So I'm a little frustrated, since I REALLY like UCLA even if the geography is not what I wanted.

They're pretty quick. Submitted 11/19, email letting me know they've received it 11/22, under review 11/23. Ugh I want UCLA so bad, but my numbers are low so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I wrote a special essay for the CRS program so I'm hoping that will help. Did anyone else write program specific essays (esp those who already heard)? Congrats to everyone who already got in!

How do you know you're under review? There's no status checker right?

To my knowledge there is no status checker (I'm sure someone here can answer that definitively). I'm just assuming because I got an email that says:

"Thank you for applying to UCLA School of Law. We are writing to let you know that your file is complete. It is difficult for us to predict when you will receive a final decision. We will make decisions through the end of April. Admission decisions will be communicated through email so please let us know if your email address changes. We greatly appreciate your patience during the review process. We know this is a stressful period and we want to assure you that your application will be thoroughly reviewed by our admissions committee."

I may be misreading it but the last email I got from them said they would be back in touch when it is ready for review.

I wrote a program-specific essay also. But my numbers are just borderline so hopefully they'll like it. Besides, it's true. Please love me back UCLA!

UCLA seems to get a lot of love, despite not being T14.

I was wondering why so late, but I suppose with your numbers it doesn't matter for UCLA.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
