I don't see how a peek at the data could hurt

2011-12, Columbia accepted 216 people and 7 off of the wait list (according to LSN)
2012-13, Columbia accepted 195 people and 6 off of the wait list
2013-14, Columbia has accepted 172 people

All LSN caveats that you can think of apply to this data. It's plain that the class is nearly full. ¿There are probably between 30 and 50 spots?

Columbia waitlists many, many applicants (41.7% of all applicants averaged over the past 3 cycles), and of those, 3.2% were admitted. From the LSN data, that's 15 waitlist->admit over the past 3 years. Now the base number (15) is obviously a subset of the true number, but % is probably closer to truth, assuming LSN possesses a reliable sampling of applicants.

Not to be harsh, but I think a reality-check is healthy at this point in the game. If any of us get waitlisted, I think it would be prudent to not hold up your life hoping for Columbia to want you back. Ride the waitlist if your circumstances allow it, but make other plans and expect to have to keep them.

I wouldn't discount the powers of naivete and optimism. The institution of law school seems to feed off of them.
