No, it's clearly not a 'moral' action one way or the other, but your argument is basically the same thing. It's okay for A to do action because B and C do it.

Re: NYU 2010
Northwestern is the school I have beef with. They promised a decision 8 weeks after December for those who applied early, and then tried to convince me that being held is a decision. That is deceitful and just plain wrong. NYU taking longer than many people would like, well thats just how college admissions work.Joan Hollaway wrote:false, lots of cls people on hold havent heard back yet. i havent heard from C or N but whatever, ill hear eventually its not like i need to know before april 30th. yes its frustrating but theres nothing i can do but wait.D Brooks wrote:

Meh.. deferred/WL is the same thing when it comes to ED, IMO. Chicago called my deferral a "waitlist" but said I was now being actively considered with the RD pool. Still haven't heard a word.oneforship wrote:Unless you count ED-Deferred?D Brooks wrote: CC are still handing out decisions for people who applied in Jan/Feb. Not people who applied in October.

I don't dispute this point. And although I think "holding" applicants is a copout, I don't think Helm has heard a WORD from NYU since his complete email. The only two emails I've gotten from them were a complete email and then a request for fall grades two and a half months later.Joan Hollaway wrote:false, lots of cls people on hold havent heard back yet.

Is that true? I thought I had seen lots of examples of exactly that situation over in the Columbia thread, at least. Granted, I don't follow that one very closely and could be wrong.D Brooks wrote:CC are still handing out decisions for people who applied in Jan/Feb. Not people who applied in October.
At any rate, I'll reiterate a point from a while back: admonitions are handed out at your own discretion, and that's fine, but please make sure to target the right people. Sending your excoriating e-mail to the generic admissions address (or worse, yelling at the first person who picks up the phone) is poor decorum. Dakatz, was it you and I who had that exchange? Anyways, turned it out to be nothing, but it seems like a reminder might be in order before people march on the admissions office with pitchforks: Don't shoot the phone jockey.

I called them in December (lol) asking if they had reached a decision. The lady told me "no" and then hung up on me. This was my last contact. They did not even ask for a transcript update, which makes no sense IMO.D Brooks wrote:And although I think "holding" applicants is a copout, I don't think Helm has heard a WORD from NYU since his complete email.Joan Hollaway wrote:false, lots of cls people on hold havent heard back yet.

I'm in the same boat, and yet I find myself invested / obsessed. I dont understand why.D Brooks wrote:At this point, I wouldn't attend without $$ so I'm not very invested myself. It's now an issue of decency and respect. Especially since they said no when I asked for a fee waiver right before I applied... way back on Oct 19.

Yes, it was me, and you are absolutely right. To anyone wishing to express their feelings, as I did before and plan to do once again, make sure it gets to the right people. I got pretty angry when talking to a girl on the phone, but I made sure to instruct her to pass everything along to a higher-up, and I made it clear that none of it was directed at her. I sort of got a bit angry while talking, but made sure that it was directed at the right people. But yes, definitely get your feelings across to them.clintonius wrote:Is that true? Should I tell them my thoughts that this is an emotionally charged process and that I understand making decisions is never quick or easy? Or is it only anger that can be expressed?dakatz wrote:Yes, it was me, and you are absolutely right. Quite the contrary, I only act like that is the way I feel to be contradictory to popular opinion. If everyone else was being nice, I would be mean.hannah87 wrote:people from Texas are too nice ^

A ridiculous statement. I'd rather see them spend the money on the education itself or student services etc. An applicant, with his/her application fee is entitled to have his/her application considered, full stop. If you don't like how they do business, don't go. Anyway, waiting on CLS, as well as nearly every other school in T13 is their prerogative. It will allow them to admit the best class they can, which better serves their eventual enrolled class. Staffing is not a huge part of this issue.dakatz wrote: And no, a school that charges obscene tuition like NYU can afford to hire a few more people to read apps and expedite the whole process. The whole "oh we are so understaffed" line is utter BS.
Sure, I'd like to see communication on the level of GULC, but I'm not going to whine about them doing something that makes a lot of practical sense for themselves. If you want an instant decision, try not to be so borderline.

I just realized the letter was dated 4/2, but it was postmarked 4/15. So it is a little lame that it took them two weeks to mail a single piece of paper after deciding, but I'm not going to nurse any ill willl.

Re: NYU 2010
This is clearly all part of Obama's radical socialist agenda.
Giving no word to students who applied in Oct/Nov until many schools seat deposit deadlines have passed is pretty messed up. At least they could have given us some "hold" bullshit (or the "we know you exist" email Michigan sent to some) to let us know they didn't lose all of our applications.
Whatever, I will enjoy Ann Arbor.

Re: NYU 2010
The 'we know you exist' email was torture too. So much analysis put into an email that could have expressed the same message by saying "Chill. Don't call us, we'll get to you eventually." The only hold notification I liked was Columbia's because it gave an exact date on when I should start freaking out. I guess I can appreciate the need for some sort of communication from the school. I got a fall transcript request so that is more than everyone else. The silence from Stanford was bad, so I can relate to the anger here.goodolgil wrote:This is clearly all part of Obama's radical socialist agenda.
