I'm actually shocked you haven't been admitted. Maybe its due to your URM status. I think you'll get in eventually though.Core wrote:October 17.crackberry wrote:When'd you apply?Core wrote:Lol well I wasn't dinged just yet

I hope so, too. I have noticed that NYU/CLS seem partial to MX & Cubans over PR. This is likely due to geographic reasons.crackberry wrote:I'm actually shocked you haven't been admitted. Are acceptances being sent to current or permanent addresses?

True. More Puerto Ricans in NYC than Puerto Rico.Core wrote:I hope so, too. I have noticed that NYU/CLS seem partial to MX & Cubans over PR. This is likely due to geographic reasons.

As we know from Bernstein, Sondheim, and Robbins.crackberry wrote:True. More Puerto Ricans in NYC than Puerto Rico.Core wrote:I hope so, too. I have noticed that NYU/CLS seem partial to MX & Cubans over PR. This is likely due to geographic reasons.

Coolegemex also got dinged, though, and he applied EA; I believe that he got at least two of HYS.
I realized that I ultimately want to remain and practice in NYC, but it seems like NYU/CLS are averse to my application (likely because of my LSAT score).
I already sent in a LOCI & updated transcripts. Do you think it would be inapprorpriate to send in a short letter stating I would withdraw from all other law schools if admitted to NYU/CLS (I would only write this to one of them, of course)? He got dinged at Texas, as did coolegemex and myself, so obviously there's a bit of YP going on down there.
Don't doubt the YP, but I can't say how aggressive it is. I got in with a 3.9/176, but I'm an undergrad here so it might be kind of a dick move for them to YP one of their own.

I think that the YP only affects out-of-staters.
Also, my file screamed "I don't care about you" because I submitted before the EA deadline but didn't bother to check the EA box.

I've been complete since 12/8 and still haven't received anything from Columbia! =( Does that mean they basically hate me and are waiting to send out rejections...or is there hope?! i'm a 3.71/170 so I know its a bit of a stretch!

I don't even know why I torture myself coming to this thread or checking the status checker
I have like a .5% chance of getting in with my numbers (169/3.1)
But my Peace Corps resume + personal statement has been such a big factor in getting me into other schools I didn't see coming that I'm holding onto this faint glimmer of hope that is just going to ultimately leave me disappointed.

Nooooo! I've been sitting here telling myself that since you're not worried about getting in, just scholarships, it's stupid for me to be worrying that Columbia is going to reject me for some inane soft factor. I have an uncompleted fluff master's degree, which I was assured by a guy my dad knows at Boalt would have zero effect on my chances because it's very common for law students to have been in other graduate programs previously and realized those fields weren't for them -- but who knows, maybe Columbia doesn't like quitters!! Or maybe it would have no effect on my chances at Boalt, but the west coast is weird and it will matter to Columbia. That's the only thing I can realistically see having an effect on my chances, but, much like your 3.0 in Buenos Aires, it seems like a pretty stupid reason to ding someone whose overall application indicates that s/he will be a great law student.CoaltoNewCastle wrote: Yeah, I'm getting pretty disheartened and wondering if there's something terrible about my application that I don't know about. I will admit that I got bad study abroad grades in Buenos Aires, but I took hard classes and hadn't taken Spanish since 11th grade! It didn't affect my UGPA, but the grades are on my college's transcript for some reason.
Or, maybe there's one person on the committee who's super inefficient or has mono or something, and our applications have been parked on his/her desk for the past two weeks. Objectively, I think it's likely to be something mundane and yet unexpected like that, but every day that goes by makes me less rational. Is this how heart>head people feel all the time? Cuz I don't like it.
