As someone else who is potentially NYU-bound, I too would like to know about this. Like cosmopolitan, I realize on an intellectual level that the difference between 5 and 6 is negligible, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a mini-freakout when I learned that NYU dropped out of the top 5 for the first time in over a decade.

It doesn't mean anything. Chicago is an excellent school that is less exposed to the NY market which was absolutely devastated during the crisis. Grades will matter much more than which of CCN you go to.

A lot of people (including me) thought Chicago was the superior school long before USNWR decided to put Chi at #5.

And when you're a top 6 school, there's not much upward trajectory you can have, there will always be shuffling among CCN. Hell, NYU might be #4 by the time you graduate, who knows.

Also, it's probably worth noting that in terms of overall USNWR score, NYU did not lose any points -- it remained static while UChi and CLS increased. NYU is not dropping.

The number of points is based on statistical normalization, and therefore the point totals and rankings are all relative. So while it didn't more relative to the number 1 school which score 100 points(Yale), it did fall relative to Columbia and Chicago.

If the devastation to the NY market explains NYU's drop (or non-improvement in score, if you like), then how do we explain Columbia's 3-point rise?

I was able to access the admitted students site for a few days in early March and I thought I was in. Then my login stopped working. I never got an acceptance letter and when I called they said I was still UR although I applied on 10/26. Been UR for 5 months now

Sometime in late January they asked me to update with my fall semester grades. When I sent the transcript update a few weeks later I emailed them an LOCI as well.

geesh! this must be frustrating.

I've been waiting for 3 months and already frustrated. I am on the fence with regards to sending an "unsolicited" LOCI...

I'm not convinced that sending an LOCI before an initial decision (unless invited) is ever advantageous.

-_- These last two decisions are driving me nuts. Seriously, I'm watching Dora the Explorer and actually answering the questions like she can hear me.

April 20th apparently is the day they're going to have made all the decisions? Any changes to that date?

If you don't mind sharing, where (approx.) do you live? When was the letter postmarked?
