Sorry people don't want to scan through 144 pages or whatever. A friend of mine who applied RD FT just got an email saying he was being held and that a final decision would be made no later than 2/26. Anyone else in this boat / what does being held usually translate to as far as final decisions?

Neutral sign. I was UR for few times before being dinged.

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
I don't know what UR 12/3 means. Did they just wait until the last minute to look at an application that's been sitting around for a month or did they see something there that they liked? It was my first UR, so I don't know. Either way, I'm expecting a decision 12/15 now.
Early Decision doesn't exactly early in comparison to RD applicants. Lesson learned.
However, I would note that I'm confused by the assumption of the existence of "reject batches" and "deferral batches" and what not. Sure, everyone on this board seemed to have been dinged at 12/1, but we're such a small group that it's entirely possible that everyone else got acceptances, eh?

They also waited until 12/3 to put me UR for the first time - i saw a FT that was under review 12/3 and DR 12/7 though he had a 174 so that could be it. Either way I'm not feeling good about it, I feel like times winding down to sent a letter, they can just shoot me the rejection email the last day and still make the 12/15 guarantee.

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
application completed 11/24
the status never changed then
received an email four hours ago telling me my application is deferred.
at the same time the time changed to 12/1. Guess I am in the 12/1 group.
I am 166/3.8 FT ED, and I posted my experience to prove one thing:
Georgetown has too many applicants and she gets rid of people like me
simply by deferring the decision without a glimpse of file. Have I not
applied the ED, it must have been a rejection mail now.
Goodluck to people in the same boat with me!

Number of others deferred. Not hard to infer the hierarchy:crackberry wrote:Sorry people don't want to scan through 144 pages or whatever. I reviewed more than half of the thread and saw no one who was deferred and had a decision now. So it is possible I have to wait until February to know the result, better for me to focus on other schools.
If anyone deferred has a decision, it will be very appreciated to post the time.

Yes I understand that. My question was more along the lines of "what is the success rate of deferred applicants?"NayBoer wrote:Number of others deferred. Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
I dont think deferral > waitlist. They dont bother to take a review of the file and decide to do the job after Christmas. Deferral is like you postpone your submission from November to January. I would say that the success rate is incalculable because selection of deferral is not based on careful examination of one's profile. ED here surely helps because it will be too cruel to reject an ED before Christmas. But the magic power fades right after Christmas.crackberry wrote:Yes I understand that. Let me rephrase my question: does anyone know how deferred applicants generally fare historically? Is there a thread on this from last year?

Out of curiosity, did your status checker have an update today, similar to fasttrack226?

Just saw my status. I'm up in Philly with the world slowest campus mail system. It's essentially nearly impossible that this decision would reach me today.lsathalon wrote:Still waiting! But that's not going to stop me from going STRAIGHT down to my mail box right now.

I've decided that status checkers are bad because they lead to hysteria. The GW thread only has 4 pages, because there's no status checker, and therefore nothing to freak out about.

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
Yeah, here's the thing; what's the point of going ED in that case? At this point, I'm going to get DR on or around 12/15, but people who were RD started getting their decisions early even when they applied later than me. I'm not harping on the RD folks, I just fail to see the utility of ED if all it means is a quick way to get into Georgetown if you already have outstanding numbers.aquaman wrote:They also waited until 12/3 to put me UR for the first time - i saw a FT that was under review 12/3 and DR 12/7 though he had a 174 so that could be it. I'm starting to get the feeling that I was held back from UR for so long because my number demonstrated that this was a pipe dream, in which case, I'm a little pissed. Snuff my dreams out quickly, don't let me agonize over chances that aren't there.

Looking on the bright side, our thread has the benefit of group therapy.jk11287 wrote:I've decided that status checkers are bad because they lead to hysteria. The GW thread only has 4 pages, because there's no status checker, and therefore nothing to freak out about.

... I'm still application complete 11/20 (after they messed up my file & I had to physically hand deliver some paper work) & I applied ED. They are really cutting it close; Guess they'll just send my rejection without looking at my file.

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
Don't forget that it means they will surely charge you full tuition bc you're ED. All these are reasons why people should rarely if ever apply to anything ED. It gives all the power to the schools.billyez wrote:Yeah, here's the thing; what's the point of going ED in that case?
