Can we assume most people still waiting are WL/dings? I have been UR2 since 2/7. Currently accepted to CLS and UCHI and would love to get the trifecta, but I am losing quickly losing hope.

Like you'd take NYU over UChi or CLS - you'd have to be crazy!TexasAggie13 wrote:Can we assume most people still waiting are WL/dings? I have been UR2 since 2/7. Currently accepted to CLS and UCHI and would love to get the trifecta, but I am losing quickly losing hope.

Chicago has graded legal writing, NYU doesn't. Supposedly that's a big deal according to non 0L's.ManOfTheMinute wrote:Like you'd take NYU over UChi or CLS - you'd have to be crazy!TexasAggie13 wrote:Can we assume most people still waiting are WL/dings? All of my friends at Chi who picked it over NYU say this. Given that I've only gotten into NYU so far there's not much of a choice, but I at least understand the argument for why it should be a consideration...don't necessarily subscribe to it though.KingFish wrote:Chicago has graded legal writing, NYU doesn't. Probably mostly true, but we're still short of last year's admit total (not counting waitlist-admits)LRGhost wrote:It's probably just gonna be WL/dings at this point :/toothbrush wrote:ANY movement ?
2012-2013
Admits so far: 298
Average LSAT/GPA: 171.8/3.78
Median LSAT/GPA: 172/3.8
2011-2012
Total (non-waitlist) admits: 322
Average LSAT/GPA: 173/3.78
Median LSAT/GPA: 173/3.82
298/322=92.5% of expected admits, so unless class size is dropping, we can probably expect a few more.
Also, it looks like NYU is probably going to be at least a 171 if not lower (since that 173 LSAT average for admits last year only resulted in a 171 for actual matriculants)

Re: NYU C/O 2016 Applicants Thread!!! (Woooooo!!!!!)
Nice work. NYU has a history of grabbing splitters (especially 174+ with low GPAs) off the WL in June. Their strategy may be to stay as close to both medians for as long as possible, then grab splitters as needed over the summer to boost their LSAT median.
Good luck everyone.

thanks for this. i saw a similar version of this in the uChi thread and was hoping for an NYU.hohenheim wrote:Probably mostly true, but we're still short of last year's admit total (not counting waitlist-admits)LRGhost wrote:It's probably just gonna be WL/dings at this point :/toothbrush wrote:ANY movement ?

Given the increasing propensity (is that a fucking word to be used here?) of being using LSN wouldn't we actually expect the total # of applicants, minus the chance of class size dropping, to be a bit HIGHER this year?

Are there that many more people on LSN this year than last? Please don't cut class sizestoothbrush wrote: thanks for this. i saw a similar version of this in the uChi thread and was hoping for an NYU.

This is just hopeful speculation, but I don't think NYU seems like a place that would cut class sizes, even at risk of falling medians, unless they were seriously threatened of falling out of the CCN cluster. Law school is still a cash cow, and NYU has need of cash cows with its aggressive expansion plans. Again, just hopeful speculation while I wait for my WL/ding.

There are fewer people on LSN this year but obvs that doesn't really mean anything considering there are also fewer applicants. I don't know if LSN users as a percentage of the total applicant pool are up or not though.LRGhost wrote:Are there that many more people on LSN this year than last? I don't think there is any real danger of them falling out of CCN.sc-123 wrote:This is just hopeful speculation, but I don't think NYU seems like a place that would cut class sizes, even at risk of falling medians, unless they were seriously threatened of falling out of the CCN cluster. It's so weird and selfish to not want law schools to cut class sizes but ugh.

did not understand this. can someone elaborate(since that 173 LSAT average for admits last year only resulted in a 171 for actual matriculants)

Basically, the average LSAT of everyone they admitted was 173. The average LSAT of the people who actually attended was 171. So basically a bunch of people with better lsats were admitted but went elsewhere.longlivetheking wrote:did not understand this. can someone elaborate(since that 173 LSAT average for admits last year only resulted in a 171 for actual matriculants)

i thought there was a natural skew towards more highly qualified applicants on LSN.Micdiddy wrote:Basically, the average LSAT of everyone they admitted was 173. Re: NYU C/O 2016 Applicants Thread!!! (Woooooo!!!!!)
This may be true, but the point is that we observed a gap between the LSN admit LSAT median and the C/o 2015 actual median. This is significant because the LSN numbers this year are lower than last year, suggesting that the C/o 2016 actual median may also drop.longlivetheking wrote:i thought there was a natural skew towards more highly qualified applicants on LSN.Micdiddy wrote:Basically, the average LSAT of everyone they admitted was 173. EDIT: Also, to respond more directly to your comment about the applicants on LSN: You are right that LSN applicants are generally better than the average applicant since they account for 20% of total admits while only representing 10% of the pool. This does not, however, suggest that the ADMITS on LSN will have any better numbers than the total admit pool, just that LSN represents a greater proportion of them.
