172/3.67 waitlisted today.... so sad because michigan was a top choice and i was under the impression that my numbers were strong (LSP has me as straight-up admit?!). proof the whole process is not just numbers... in an unfortunate way for me ha! GL to everyone else.

Dude, you got into Penn, UVA, and Duke, no way you're not at least getting a WL.

I understand the comfort of fatalism, but, fuck it, I'm gonna say we've got acceptances on the way.

Nada...but seriously, they can't possibly take off of the waitlisted people off of the waitlist. So it seems to sort of a soft-rejection intended to say, in many cases, "You're qualified to come, but we think you're not going to, so we're going to throw the waitlist at you and see if you really want to." For us, surely we'd follow in the category of people worthy of at least a soft rejection as opposed to a hard one.

Yeah I definetly agree that it doesn't make much sense but it seems as though if I were to be waitlisted it would have been today, and if I had to guess between accept/reject i think rejection is slightly more likely because they had 4 months to accept me. I hope your right though.

Also there were a few people with similar numbers that got straight up rejected a while back in this thread and on LSN there are some people with much better numbers than me that were rejected.

Maybe. But a soft reject and a "hard" reject are still both rejects in my book.

Michigan's status checker updates for everyone every single day. It's rather useless. The best chance of ever finding anything is trying to get into their ASW.

They seem to be overenrolled every year. I wouldnt hold my horses. Im on the waitlist too. Letting this one go though. Michigan was very very high on my list but it just wasnt meant to be I guess.

To answer your question, im sure the better numbers you have the better your chances of admission from the waitlist. Nevertheless, I wouldnt expect anything. Two years ago michigan was so overrenrolled, they offered some scholarship money to attending students who were willing to defer a year.

UM only offered me 45k, so probably not enough to pull me away from Berkeley and NYU, especially since my SO would have a hell of a time finding work in Michigan. I had a great feeling about the school, but will probably be withdrawing soon. Good luck to everyone on the WL, hope I can help out at least one of you!!
