Or maybe JS can't sleep because she's feeling the pain of applicants who haven't heard back yet, so she'll keep calling through the night...?lawschool22 wrote:Thisscoobers wrote:barrelofmonkeys wrote:wtrc wrote:Hijust a tip, don't post in here right now.please keep posting in here. I think so too. I'm surprised they did two consecutive days of calls already. There has to be a third...lawschool22 wrote:+1drawstring wrote:Hoping for a big JS2 batch tomorrow...

I can't believe I missed this post. No one IRL knew I was anxious about admissions decisions at all. I only expressed it on TLS.js101b wrote:tls2175 wrote:Also, I want to give a huge shout out to everyone in this thread for helping me to channel my application jitters on TLS so that I could remain somewhat functional in the non-virtual world.

I'd be crushed if HLS rejected me because JS wanted to make an example of me. I have distinctive stats and I'm really hoping that's not the case..........

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
well you quoted me--are you gonna deleted this later? and I actually have no idea what their post counts were when I posted that. I just knew that they were really distinctive profiles of people who liked to break things down. That's a service to other posters but between A (a person who spends 5hrs a day on TLS non-continuously) and B (someone who actually does stuff irl), who do you think they want?scoobers wrote:JS and admissions do read TLS.staples88 wrote:just a thought but if JS reads TLS and harbors disdain for it, she might want to make examples out of certain people to send messages that it's not all about #s, don't be an obvious megapoaster who spends too much time on the internet, and that they're not desperate to maintain medians as TLS likes to infer.
lavitz and elterrible from last year had monster stats during a supposed down year for hls and they still got W/R. they also had distinctive recognizable stats and happened to be two really helpful contributors who tried to break it down
I would like to think that being in general a helpful, positive poster, even if a megaposter, wouldn't be an impact on your application. I cannot imagine JS or any admissions committee, or quite honestly any person, being so vindictive against TLS that they would reject or waitlist someone solely because he or she posted frequently. Plenty of people in this thread--including the OP--have gotten in recently. I'm not saying your posts don't matter--this definitely isn't the forum for a political debate--but the idea that an admissions committee would reject someone solely because he or she had a high post count (which you have insinuated up there with Lavitz and elterrible) is quite honestly rude towards the people who are spending hours pouring over our applications. If anything, the fact that people with high numbers didn't all get in to Harvard shows that they care about much more than just their medians.
Please don't quote.
and I didn't say anything about -solely- because they post frequently--it's probably a confluence of factors, like they care about medians but it's not all about that and they're not going to "go low" just for them.t and JR has said that that's a huge misconception.
I'm just saying this as someone who was on collegeconfidential a few years ago. There was one poster with a 4.0/2400/hispanic/valecdictorian (literally 4.0 2400) profile who was really helpful toward other posters and racked up a high post count. he mentioned his work on CC during a few of his interviews. He got rejected @ HYPSM, and he said that when writing his letter to remain on someone's waitlist, he deliberately omitted CC because he thinks being a megapoaster gave adcoms the wrong idea of who he was.

This.FuriousDuck wrote:You know, I can't really prove that you're not right about why people like Lavitz weren't admitted, because for all I know you could be. However, I feel like you might be grasping at straws a bit. We see how some people with high numbers and no discernible application flaws were rejected, and we want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to us, so we take whatever we know about them and tells ourselves that that is the reason. In truth, there are thousands of possible reasons why Lavitz and others like him were not admitted, and we really have very little idea of which one's are most likely.
I like to believe that when an application cycle goes awry it's because something bad was in a LOR, since that's the factor most applicants are least able to least able to self-evaluate, but there's so many other things that can go wrong, so I'm probably wrong in assuming that its a LOR problem most of them time. Sometimes we have to admit that we don't really understand why things happen the way they do.
I was rejected by several schools where I was somewhere around 90th percentile combined GPA/SAT for undergrad. People came to me with all sorts of reasons why it may have happened. I eventually ended up realizing that I never properly completed the applications. Woops.
+1.
Actually, all of the +.
(I also think PSs can be something hard to predict -- even if we think we wrote a solid one, people will respond differently to the stories we tell based on their own lived experiences, and that can make a huge difference.)

I also think there is probably a difference between the type of person to be helpful on forums, and the type of person to be helpful on forums and then mention it in an interview.
