So is the consensus that if your status goes to DF at all it means you are either in or dinged? I ask because I went to DF on 5/3, yet other people seem to be going straight to WL.

Yes. DF = either in or out. The general sentiment seems to be that 5/3 is a rejection batch.sternc wrote:So is the consensus that if your status goes to DF at all it means you are either in or dinged? I ask because I went to DF on 5/3, yet other people seem to be going straight to WL.

Every time my status stays IR after a rejection batch, I feel like Neo dodging bullets.

Re: USC 2010!
Just got waitlisted as well.. i took a look at last year's LSN applicants, and it looks like about 60 got WLed and 8 got off the WL. So it looks like it's slightly better than 10% chance. But i think if you ride it out through the summer, it might be closer to 30%jlean wrote:Just got waitlisted... anybody know how likely it is to get off USC's waitlist?

How do you find those statistics on LSN?UnclaimedGas wrote:Just got waitlisted as well.. i took a look at last year's LSN applicants, and it looks like about 60 got WLed and 8 got off the WL. Re: USC 2010!
Go to the applicants section of USC on LSN, click on the 2008-2009 tab, sort by "status", and literally count the number of WLed applicants... that's how i got those #s. I think the sample size is big enough to make a reasonable estimate on our chancesJaLeCa wrote:How do you find those statistics on LSN?UnclaimedGas wrote:Just got waitlisted as well.. i took a look at last year's LSN applicants, and it looks like about 60 got WLed and 8 got off the WL. Re: USC 2010!
the small data set makes it so hard to gain any reliable information from it. but, also keep in mind that many of the WLed either withdrew or didn't follow up (LOCIs).JaLeCa wrote:How do you find those statistics on LSN?UnclaimedGas wrote:Just got waitlisted as well.. i took a look at last year's LSN applicants, and it looks like about 60 got WLed and 8 got off the WL. at a minimum, atleast ~28 explicitly reported on LSN that they withdrew their app without getting a response. then you are looking at something closer to 8/30 ~ 27%. of course, again, the sample set is so small and there are many other factors involved.

Did anyone's IR date change to 5/4? Just noticed mine. Previous (and only other) IR date was 3/17.

Re: USC 2010!
On second thought.. i think you are right, LSN stats probably aren't a very good representation of the entire applicant pool. LSN posters are likely those that meticulously prepared their apps, and bombard admission offices with epic LOCIs... so i think if you were to venture a estimate off LSN, it is probably wiser to be more conservative that what it seemsDOOM wrote:the small data set makes it so hard to gain any reliable information from it. but, also keep in mind that many of the WLed either withdrew or didn't follow up (LOCIs).JaLeCa wrote:How do you find those statistics on LSN?UnclaimedGas wrote:Just got waitlisted as well.. i took a look at last year's LSN applicants, and it looks like about 60 got WLed and 8 got off the WL. so perhaps like 20%ish chance if you plan to ride it out

Not following up with a LOCI means they don't consider further?DOOM wrote:the small data set makes it so hard to gain any reliable information from it. but, also keep in mind that many of the WLed either withdrew or didn't follow up (LOCIs).JaLeCa wrote:How do you find those statistics on LSN?UnclaimedGas wrote:Just got waitlisted as well.. i took a look at last year's LSN applicants, and it looks like about 60 got WLed and 8 got off the WL. Re: USC 2010!
not necessarily, but as the summer goes on they will likely assume you've moved on with your life. many/most schools will try and gauge your interest in some fashion before offering you admission off the waitlist. its a time-sensitive process and they have seats to fill. if you aren't going to accept fast, they need to move on to the next person in line. LOCIs are a good indicator of interest, people get in without them though.txhorn wrote:

Re: USC 2010!
Does anyone know when they started taking people off the waitlist last year? I couldn't imagine it being anytime soon this year, considering they haven't gotten back to everyone yet.

Re: USC 2010!
According to LSN, they started on May 1st last year. I also agree that its probably a bit early right now, given that a few regular candidates haven't received an initial decision yet. I'm sure there will be movement soon though. The USC first deposit is comparatively large ($500), im sure that will discourage multiple-depositers at this school.Dionysus wrote:Does anyone know when they started taking people off the waitlist last year? No one has stated that they have gotten off the waitlist yet. USC hasn't even finished notifying people of their 1st decision.Neelio wrote:bump- sorry- really need to know, as I need to make some decisions about sending in seat deposit $$$Neelio wrote:I'm sure this has already been asked- but has anyone been admitted off the waitlist yet?
