Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Is it imprudent to reveal to the adcomm (via app or interview) that you are concurrently applying to other, non-law programs (e.g. TeachforAmerica, Peace Corps, etc.) with the possibility of deferring law school if accepted? I was thinking it may help support one's claims about being interested in public service, but will it hurt more than help by making them think I'll just reapply later anyway, or that I'm not sure about law school yet, etc? Is it better to stay silent on it?
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

My gut feeling is that it's better to stay silent. That said, seems like from the links above if you do get in, they would be very accommodating to deferral. Maybe try the Spivey thread or one of the other former admissions officer threads? They might be able to give a more concrete answer.

Is there a correlation, statistically or anecdotally, between time it takes to go from complete to JS1 and chances of JS2? Is getting a quick JS1 preferable to one that takes a long time in terms of likihood of admission?

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I just filtered for people who put in their complete and JS1 dates, then checked the average time for people who have put "accepted" and people who had anything else (including blanks) and got an average of 34 days for people who've been admitted and 35 days for people who haven't. So there doesn't seem to be a difference based on that.buyorsell912 wrote:Is there a correlation, statistically or anecdotally, between time it takes to go from complete to JS1 and chances of JS2? Anecdotally I had to wait 2 months for my JS1 and then got a JS2 a little over 2 weeks later
There were 44 and 43 people in the two groups btw

Congrats to all of you with JS2s!!!
Does anyone know if there is any sort of deadline by which JS2s need to confirm attendance/put down a deposit?

5/1/15. As of now it looks like there's no deposit fee, which is nice.mimiquestionmark wrote:Congrats to all of you with JS2s!!!

Does anyone know when the financial aid application deadline is for HLS?
Also, this may be a dumb question, but what if you aren't accepted by the time of the deadline? Do you put in a financial aid application anyway? I am not quite sure how this whole process works.

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Idk the actual date, but it's very late. You send in a preliminary application this spring (maybe sometime in March?) and they estimate what your package will be. You don't get the actual package until summer.HungarianGirl13 wrote:Does anyone know when the financial aid application deadline is for HLS?

Financial aid application for incoming students is set to open next week, per this website: http://hls.harvard.edu/dept/sfs/managin ... -overview/HungarianGirl13 wrote:Does anyone know when the financial aid application deadline is for HLS?

I don't think you can apply for aid before admission but I'm not sure...

Is there any correlation between who interviews you and your chances of being admitted? Like, does JS do all the top candidates herself and relegate the marginal candidates to others in the admissions office? Is the opposite true? Just curious.

Nope, it's totally random. The interviewer you have has no bearing on your chances of admission.IngmarKurosawa wrote:Is there any correlation between who interviews you and your chances of being admitted? Per the official HLS email:HungarianGirl13 wrote:Does anyone know when the financial aid application deadline is for HLS?

Age out for parental information is 29 also.HLS does NOT have a specific financial aid application deadline. We award files on a rolling basis as they become complete. We expect to make our first award offers in early March, and we will strive for a two week (10 business days) award decision turnaround time from the date we notify you that your application is complete. If you complete your aid application by April 15, you will receive an award offer prior to May 1 so you can make an informed admissions decision. The timing of when your file becomes complete DOES NOT impact the award package we can offer you.

However, just checked this on the admitted students page because I was curious, parental information is not required on the FAFSA, regardless of age.yot11 wrote: Age out for parental information is 29 also.

Wait, does that mean that they don't consider the parents' financial situation when calculating the financial aid of admitted students? If so, that is COMPLETELY fair. I really support that.LetsGoMets wrote:However, just checked this on the admitted students page because I was curious, parental information is not required on the FAFSA, regardless of age.yot11 wrote: Age out for parental information is 29 also.

I'm not sure about the FAFSA but Harvard makes it pretty clear that they DO consider parental information.thequeen wrote:Wait, does that mean that they don't consider the parents' financial situation when calculating the financial aid of admitted students? From the same email:
They also state somewhere that if you don't submit parental info (below 29) then you are automatically DQ'd from aid.All student applicants for need-based grant aid at HLS, except for those who reach age 29 by September 1, 2015, must submit parental financial information, including copies of individual and business Federal tax forms. The best thing you can do during the month of January is encourage your parents to complete their 2014 tax forms as early as possible, to ensure that your application for aid can be submitted relatively early in the process.

From my understanding, students under 29 are required to submit parental info in the form of tax returns and W-2s if they want aid, but not required to complete the parental portion of FAFSA. Can anyone corroborate?yot11 wrote:
