Interesting! Any insight into whether applicants who previously would've been held will just be waitlisted instead or if they simply won't receive a decision of any kind until they receive a final acceptance/rejection?

Holds were really confusing last year, because nobody really knew what they meant. I would imagine that applicants who otherwise would have been held probably won't be given a A/R/W until they would have without the hold, but perhaps W will be used earlier. I don't really know.

a hold is just a "we haven't made a decision on your app yet," right? is there any reason schools without ED use holds? why wouldn't they just...wait on giving a decision?

Yeah I've always wondered what the point of a hold was if you didn't have ED.

I'd personally like to hear something rather than wrack my brain over what's taking so long. It's kind of a 'hey, we haven't forgotten about you/lost your app. hang in there bud"

Yeah, it seems like it would be nice to at least get some sort of acknowledgment from admissions. But I can also see them wanting to get rid of it if it resulted in a ton of people calling the office saying "I got held, WHAT DOES IT MEAN"

Well I was bored waiting for JS so I applied to Cornell. They just randomly sent me a fee waiver a few minutes ago so I figured why not (wasn't planning on applying before).
