Forgive me if this has been covered, but is there a stat level that will make not interviewing okay? I haven't signed up for an interview, and for various reasons I don't think I am going to do so. What is considered "safe" w/o interview?

Interview: 11/6, with the Associate Director of Admissions at VULS
LSAT: 164
GPA: 3.68
URM: Native American Female
Also have a graduate degree

Good luck! Sounds like if anyone would be, you should be in decent shape. I think doing the interview can only help you, unless you're socially inept and totally creepy, but not doing the interview won't necessarily hurt you.

The school has never come out and said this directly, but I still maintain that if admissions can pull in a class of 190 students, all of whom have spoken with or met an adcomm/alumnus, and still keep or raise medians at 168+ and 3.7ish+, then they'll do it. There's a lot to be said for meeting the person behind the numbers. School also hasn't to my knowledge surveyed alumni since beginning the interview program, but I expect most alumni want to see it become mandatory or at least "strongly encouraged" over the next couple of years (similar to Northwestern).

I'm not saying you or anyone else who chose not to interview won't end up becoming great lawyers simply because you declined an interview, but for practical purposes it makes sense to screen everyone prior to admission and to only let in those who made it past the screen.

That said, while they're in the transitional phase my guess is that if your numbers are above both 75ths you're probably still a lock, and possibly if you're above both medians. Otherwise, it just depends on how many of your numerical equivalents managed to pass an interview. (From what it sounds like most people do fine, so it's not necessarily a big hurdle to clear.)

If you're concerned it might make sense to contact school and request an interview, even though the deadline has passed. It can't hurt unless your circumstances actually prohibit you from making a phone call.

[edit after seeing your numbers: yeah, you are probably ok if everything else in your application checks out. g'luck... I still say it can't hurt to call.]

Thanks for the insight. I should have interviewed, and I totally see how filling the class with people that they are more "sure" about only benefits them. If they reject me, I would understand.

Hopefully they'll glean enough from my app to take a chance. I'll consider calling as well, I just don't want it to come across as "I didn't feel like interviewing at first, but now that other people are being accepted, I guess I'll do it..." (which is not the case).

There was definitely something, I'm not sure if it was ALL merit awards or just spefic scholarships and grants you could apply for ... I didn't do it because my numbers aren't good enough for any sort of merit aid from them. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Vandy is among my loooong shots.

I requested an interview probably 6 weeks ago. For a couple of work-related reasons, I asked for a phoner. Admissions office said a month ago that someone would get to me soon.

However, I had just successfully asked them to hold off on my app review until December LSAT comes out. I haven't heard anything from anybody since.

So, think they have decided to wait to interview until my December results are posted? Or should I be e-mailing/calling and asking them what gives?

Mind sharing where the 2Ls recommend? I have to say their Bar Review planners were probably the worst I've seen in my time here. This year's 1Ls (who will be writing next year's OD) have done a much better job selecting locations each week, even though I've been out of the country a lot and haven't made it to more than a handful of them.

Also, if it doesn't include The Listening Room I highly recommend it. We went a few weeks ago for happy hour on a Friday and stayed through 15 live acts and a special birthday party for a local songwriter. In addition to having Yazoo's new high gravity stout on tap, the owners were very friendly and a bunch of the musicians thought we were music executives and kept coming up to give us their business cards. Pretty sure we just went along with it by the end of the night. It's also in Cummins Station which is this cool renovated warehouse... houses Steve McNair's (RIP) nonprofit org, a world-class tattoo artist, decent sushi bar, and my favorite environmental group in town, the Land Trust for Tennessee. And it's right by the Frist Center for the Arts, which has friday afternoon happy hours during the summer for young professionals to meet up and then head out afterwards.

In short, Nashville is a fun town.

YES. got mine today. amazing. definitely made me rethink the idea that i've had that i wouldn't go to vandy over gtown or duke (my other acceptances so far). let's see if i can get some decent $$... from the looks of the stuff in the box i would be a very happy camper at vandy.
