Whomever you talked to was exaggerating--there's nothing (officially) available from student housing for $400/month... that said, grad student housing at UCI is a good deal. My husband and I had a decent sized two bedroom apartment for $1500/month, and it was one of the largest two bedroom floor plans available (~860 sq. ft.). Almost all of our utilities (everything except electricity, which ran ~$20/month total) were included: cable TV, high speed wifi, water, trash/recycling. The units are pretty basic... think industrial carpeting, basic fixtures, no A/C or dishwasher... but also a great value for the area. I just graduated in the class of 2016 and we lived in graduate housing for all three years.

There are a very small number of studios and 1 bedrooms available (and yes, very reasonably priced), but they're pretty much impossible to get and generally go to couples, not individuals.

I wouldn't say so. I received a feeler email from Dean Austin telling me they'd be making a small number of offers in the coming weeks.

Edited: Received this email last Friday, told her I was not interested. Hopefully someone here gets off the WL.

No, I was waitlisted sometime in April and hadn't had any correspondence with the school before or after that.

Had you submitted a LOCI or made any contact with admissions since submitting your app? Where are you going instead?

No contact at all, so I was really surprised to get the email. Maybe they are giving preference to Southern Californians? I've lived in LA all my life, and I think I read somewhere that California natives have the best shots at getting off the UC Berkeley and UCLA waitlists.

Going to Northwestern instead.

Good to know! Sounds like they are making some waitlist moves. An admissions officer mentioned that they issue rejections from the waitlist at one point in the middle of summer, and then just before orientation. Good luck at Northwestern!

I'm guessing your LSAT was >75th percentile? Looking at LSN, the two people admitted off the waitlist were in the 165+ range.

Yeah, heavy splitter. Guess they want to boost their LSAT medians!

A friend of mine spoke with the director of admissions (I believe) who said that there hasn't been much movement off the WL.

Sent an email to the dean of admissions last week. Got a very vague reply that made it sound like their class is pretty much full at this point (just my interpretation, I could be wrong...don't get mad at me CAteacherguy :D)

This is just a shame that one of the extremely few people, like EXTREMELY FEW people, that got accepted off the waitlist graduated with a 2.5 GPA, but had a 167 LSAT. What about the people who have 4 less LSAT points but a whole 1.0+ higher GPA. What about us?!?!

On a lighter note, I met the guy who got in with those numbers at one of the summer admissions events and he was a very kind and respectable person, best of luck to him.

I've been scared to write on here because of that but that is me. To be fair, I have a fairly good reason for my super low GPA, not that that totally matters though. Got accepted off the waitlist a week or so ago with an email. I went and visited campus, interviewed with admissions, sent in a LOCI every month, basically just the normal stuff. Where did I meet you at?

At the end of the day, it really is just a numbers game. sigh.

An LOCI every month? Did something in your application change every month or were you just trying to reiterate interest? I only sent one but now I'm thinking I should've sent more.

I think a monthly letter is pretty standard, some schools have even requested it (UCLA, Vandy, etc.) I definitely used it to reiterate interest but also just tried to keep making a case of why UCI was a good choice for my career path and what I had to offer the class. After I visited, the next one I sent was about my tour and how I liked the school, etc.

Is there a special waitlist email address to send LOCI to or do we just send it to the UCI law admissions email?

I just sent it to the standard email but once I toured campus and met with an admissions officer I started cc'ing them in the email as well.
