anybody here know what the criteria are for interview selection? apologies if this has already been addressed, can't find it anywhere. are they just interviewing applicants on the margins?

Probably just before October takers get their scores
Something like that. The only thing keeping me going is the knowledge that I'm relatively secure with LSAT heavy Columbia and that they won't start sending acceptances out until like December/January regardless of when I apply.

I'd recommend waiting until October LSAT scores are out if you've waited this long. That's when they went out via CRS last year
