in general, the interview is a good thing. people do get admitted without interviews, but it's more common for people to have to go through the interview first. it's not like the cornell interview which is basically just for YP purposes

Hope this can be of use:

My UVA interview was not used as a major factor in my admission. My interview was conducted by Assistant Dean of Admissions, Cordel Faulk, who told me at the end that they had already admitted me with a Dillard and just wanted to get to meet me and make sure that I would really be a good fit for UVA (i.e. make sure I wasnt remarkably awkward or have gang symbols tattooed on my face). So your experience might differ from mine.

Anyway, here's how it played out:

1) Why UVA?

2) Then he pointed out my involvement in a philosophy discussion group. He asked me, "What is the biggest life lesson you learned as you discussed/studied philosophy in this group?"

3) What was the best day of your life?

4) What was the toughest day of your life?

5) What do you want to be doing 5 years out of law school?

6) If you could be doing anything, literally anything - pie in the sky dream - what would you want to be doing/have accomplished 20 or 30 years out of law school.

7) Do you have any questions for me?

The interview was very relaxed and Dean Faulk did a good job of keeping the discussion humorous and upbeat. He laughs a lot and he didnt come off as intimidating. When I asked my questions he answered them pretty thoroughly and worked in some pitches for UVA. Once I finished asking qs he told me I was in and then told me about the Dillard - he seemed to enjoy watching me lose my shit via Skype.

God, hearing these responses is a killer. Waiting a month and a half after my interview, I have to wonder why. Do you suppose it's worth it to e-mail and ask if there is anything I can do, or would I be jumping the gun in a big way? I know it's only November, and I'm still pending, but the wait is torture.

I believe a page in the admissions packet said that most scholarship awards would be made in February.

Josh gave me an interview date. I confirmed. I haven't heard back from him. But why would he confirm my confirmation? His lack of a response is a confirmation of that.

If you and I are making plans and I say "let's meet tomorrow at 2 PM," and you respond "okay sounds good," then I wouldn't write back "okay see you at 2pm." its understood.
