Did you speak to Admissions about that? I figured it may have just been the preference of the class.

I had a meeting with career services during my visit. I'm sure you could ask for more information, they are the nicest people and more than helpful.

Thats what I heard from Career Services as well during my visit. That this was the first time in years and years that GA wasn't number 2.

Check out East Edge apartments. They're super close to the law school and rent doesn't seem to be out of range for what you'd expect in Tuscaloosa. It's a new complex, too!

They look very nice, and they are basically in the same parking lot as the school. But since parking is not a problem, I would weigh my options and look at other places to live that may give me more for my money.

Yea, I will be moving down with my spouse and I think we would really like to be in a house, but not sure what options are for that.

Just received an e-mail bumping up the living stipend on my award significantly. Apparently they have/had a decent amount of money left to give out.

I reasonably anticipate hitting ~167 with 7 weeks of intensive prep, including the possibility of hiring a logic games tutor (routinely hitting -14).
Do you folks think that I should roll the dice and hope for real money late, late in the cycle, or reapply for 2018? It would suck having to sit out a year, but if that's the difference in 45k+, might be my best bet.
How do you know you'll def get more $$ ? If you're in and its where you want to go, I would not go through the headache of another LSAT if I were you.
Just my opinion

I don't. It's a gamble, but folks who have posted on this thread with similar GPA's with 163-165 have been offered close to full, if not full + stipend.

Was everyone's scholarship conditional? I've heard that many students lose their scholarship after the first year.

yeah they all are. the old stipulation that is reflected in those past statistics is top 40%. the new one for these scholarships this year is top 50%. i spoke to Dean Brady about this and was told that if the past numbers were based on a top half instead of top 40 percent stipulation that the scholarship retention rates from the past few years would be around 70-75% rather than 50-55%. she also volunteered the fact that bama does not stack scholarship recipients in sections and that they even distribute kids amongst sections evenly/fairly based on lsat/gpa
just email and ask about (i did), or call. the law school seems aware of this and i think has been trying to make an effort to make it less likely that people will lose them.
id call or email about any concerns. theyre really nice and they know better than any of us do

It'll probably be the diff in more than 45k. If you have the means, I'd sit out.

If you had to speculate, what would you say the odds of finding that sort of big $$ in July would be with a test score above the 75th?
Thanks a lot. Probably too many variables and too much uncertainty to venture an educated guess, but if anyone has one, I'd truly appreciate it.

If you genuinely think you can do significantly better on a retake, you should definitely take this year off. With your GPA, there's no reason to settle for your current score. No question.

The full ride scholarships are unconditional, but all other merit awards have the 50% stipulation. They're not going to negotiate on that, but may increase your award if you complain about the stipulations enough, for what it's worth.

Neither, if you read back in the thread, you can see others got the same. I was here and a couple of weeks I was in. But I'm sure there were others that were here and were rejected. To me, it seems like just an update that they are very close to a decision and you should know soon. I would call their admissions staff to inquire further.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
