Well if they come out and ask you if you have already committed somewhere I think that would only matter to them if they planned on accepting you. Plus I was very confused as to why I wasn't accepted in the first place with a 168, possibly yp. My why irvine essay was put together pretty haphazardly, which could also explain it.civalj wrote:Have all the waitlisted applicants received this email (or are there waitlisters who didn't get it)? You were curious about $$ for 168, I had a 167 and about a 3.0 urm and got 12k/year. No negotiation movement either. I still love the admissions office, very friendly, just expensive. Who knows you might get better your numbers are a little stronger.

They would be better off aiming for a high median GPA like emory, preserving a higher LSAT so much harder.

I didn't get that email but I just got my WL letter last week and haven't sent in my LOCI yet.civalj wrote:Have all the waitlisted applicants received this email (or are there waitlisters who didn't get it)? You would think, but its California. I'm glad I applied at WUSTL but looking back I should have applied to Emory as well, would have been a bit more friendly to me I think.

Visited campus and got a little more clarification on class size. They are very aware that next year they will be ranked and are approaching this cycle with the intention of maintaining last year's medians and boosting them if possible.
According to an adcom, the class size could be as low as 90 but they are willing to let it fluctuate from there so long as medians are maintained. Hopefully that helps some WL folks.

Is anyone else a bit thrown off by the employment stats of 2013? While an 80% score was probably impossible to maintain, did anyone expect them to slip below Davis? Has the gleam faded from UCI's new big splash in the California market? How might this affect their original goal of entering the rankings t-20?

A student on my visit asked this very question. The adcom stated that since they submitted their employed at 9 month figure a good portion of the unemployed students have found ft legal employment and that information should be released soon.civalj wrote:Is anyone else a bit thrown off by the employment stats of 2013? I'm thinking it had to do with their bar passage rate this time around. It's hard for the school to call in favors or reach out to contacts for people who aren't bar certified. Maybe someone at Irvine can weigh in on this.civalj wrote:Is anyone else a bit thrown off by the employment stats of 2013? Also, if you look at the numbers for Davis, the employment stats include 30 people who are in positions funded by UC Davis. Those positions by the school are generally given to boost their own employment numbers. UCI doesn't have any law school funded positions to boost their numbers.

On the waitlist. Can't call back because I'm at work lolz. She said she wanted to " discuss some things" - usually I just get a message that's an acceptance, kinda weird.

I would take it as a good sign, they are probably narrowing down the WL.

I've heard of people getting more money but I'm not familiar with their individual circumstances to justify the increase in cash.

I really don't see where they get off. That's literally the lowest offer I've gotten from any school this cycle.

Your scholarship amount is really strange. UCI seems to have been pretty generous this cycle and past cycles, maybe they ran out of money? If UCI is a serious consideration I'd say negotiate, they should be giving you a lot more if you got that big of a scholarship at Texas.whjohnso444 wrote:I really don't see where they get off. I received the e-mail regarding being a part of the consideration group. Applied on deadline. Fingers crossed.

Anyone else go to ASW? It was pretty awesome sitting in on Chemerinsky's class. Right now UCI's my third choice after UCLA and USC (both of which I'm on the waitlist), but I have to say I was really impressed with UCI's whole pro-bono program and their federal clerkship stats. Apparently 98% of the students do pro-bono work and the school is there to help you with it every step of the way.

I was at ASW, and it was a pretty impressive 2 day program. I will be there in the fall. Did you attend all the events?

Can anyone who went to the federal clerkship panel at ASW please summarize the points that were discussed? I went to the first day but wasn't able to attend the second.
