Re: UC Irvine c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I just wanted to extend a congratulations to those who have been accepted! I'm a current 1L at UCI and if anyone wants to message me about the school, feel free! I'm sure if you have been accepted and eventually join the facebook group you'll be able to tell who I am quite quickly, haha. I'm an international student (from Canada) so any other international students can feel free to ask for help!
As for my experience at UCI so far - it's been great for a law school experience. Let's face it - law school sucks and 1L year is hard and busy and you have no free time. However, UCI does its best to make it an enjoyable as possible and I really have appreciated it. The staff and faculty are so warm and helpful. I lost my grandmother immediately prior to exams last semester and I honestly could not have asked for a better support system in terms of the faculty - I've never had so many people emailing me and asking to help me in whatever way they could - including the Dean! After that experience I knew I had chosen the right law school.
A note on transportation, though! I chose to live in Costa Mesa because I like it a bit better than Irvine and it's a bit cheaper. I don't have a car though and it's awful. OCTA is terrible and I'm a slave to the bus schedule. So if you're going to live a few miles off campus, you need a car. I've survived (somehow) without one but I'm pinching pennies to save up for a car for the summer/next semester. So while the school is fantastic, the public transportation sucks and I wish someone had told me before I had moved. So just make sure you live on campus and/or have a car and you'll be fine!

My numbers exactly, though I applied on the 16th. Hopefully that's a good sign, I'm F5'ing my email and quite anxious.99.9luft wrote:164 (highest), 3.6, applied on 1/11/2013

Did anyone else receive the financial aid email this morning? Cruel... I was hoping to find info on scholarships and they just give the FAFSA status.

Has anyone been rejected when requesting additional merit aid or is everyone being told they will hear more at the end of the month?
Just trying to scope out if being told they will get back to me at the end of the month is a good thing or just the norm.

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Really excited about UCI (just got my admissions packet in the mail with the $$!).
One interesting thing I read on their class of '15 profile was that self-indentified students of color comprised 49% of the class
that's the highest i've seen to date (not that i specifically hunt for this data, but still...). I wonder about those who are in that 49%...maybe current students can discuss this further.
ETA: found this on UCI's website:

*Students of color - represents all non-white/Caucasian students. This statistic EXCLUDES any students that decline to state their ethnicity. This statistic INCLUDES any students that specified more than one ethnicity/race where at least one ethnicity/race was non-white/Caucasian.

I'd say 49% is about correct for the class of 2015. I'm not sure what else to say about that except that it's probably accurate, haha.

UCLA and UC Hastings are not much different; both have <50% whites (self-identified).One interesting thing I read on their class of '15 profile was that self-indentified students of color comprised 49% of the class...
This should not be surprising since a lot of Asians who attend UC undergrad and stay instate for LS.

I was admitted quite a while ago, sometime early to mid December if I remember correctly.Jonathk1 wrote:I'm also alum and I still haven't picked up my diplomaanteater1 wrote:Just a general meeting per my request.
