Got the e-mail yesterday, so so excited! Waiting on UCLA or USC, if denied will most likely head to UCI.


For the people that got the scholarships, did they e-mail the offers right off the bat? or do they send it later??

I am biased and say UCI as well. I say that mostly because of the opportunities you will have here and the atmosphere at the school. The job market is tough - I won't say it is super easy here either - but it is a lot better here than at a T2 and the school is vested in helping everyone find a job. They want the placement numbers to be good as well as they are committed to being a T1 school. I just found out yesterday from the dean that students from every quarter of our class are represented in our Art. III clerkship numbers. That speaks volumes for how federal judges perceive the school and Dean Chemerinsky. And it is a relief to know I don't have to be top 5% or even top 25% to be in the running for a federal clerkship.

Also, what are the stipulations on the tier 2 scholarship offer? I am not sure what UCI is doing this year, but in the past there hasn't been a top 1/3 requirement or anything like that. Just a very, very reasonable and doable GPA requirement at a school where there is a 3.3 curve. So your 15K at UCI will likely be more of a sure thing.

But some people are very debt averse or are unable to qualify for grad plus loans and would need them if they turned down a higher scholarship amount. And if that is your situation, then you might be better off making a different choice.

At both UCI and the T2 school I would have to maintain a 2.3. I am calculating 100k loan if I attend UCI vs 70k if I attend the other. I welcome any thoughts...

If your stips are the same as mine, it should just be a 2.0. Are you applying for financial aid? 70k in debt for a T2 is still too much, IMHO. UCI is trying to make a name for itself and will try its hardest to make sure every student is placed well, while I doubt you could get that attention at the T2.

Someone also said in the ask a UCI student thread that there should be an LRAP in place, but I don't know if you are considering PI or hoping for a firm.

I don't know about the T2, but at UCI you should have no problem at all maintaining that GPA unless you actively try to get bad grades.

Does anyone know how many seats they're looking to fill for the class of 2015? I think I read somewhere that the number is 140, but I could be way off. And although applications are down this year for other schools, UCI seems to be doing fine.
