I visited today and the facilities are so nice! New and very clean. For me the area is fine. If you've never lived in a city, it may take some getting used to, but nothing appeared unsafe to me.
It is blocks away from the baseball stadium and right around the corner from the football stadium. That gives me the impression that the city is keeping the area reasonably safe for the fans. Overall, the area and the law school superseded my expectations.

Not sure. We only toured the main law building. It is among other med school and some other grad school program buildings - so I believe there are a lot of students getting professional degrees in the area. That being said it seems like there would be a gym of some sort to use. Maybe a current student can answer?stephinmd wrote:is there a gym that students are allowed to use?alwayslovely wrote:I visited today and the facilities are so nice! New and very clean. If I remember my tour correctly, the guide said there's a gym all the UMD students share.stephinmd wrote:is there a gym that students are allowed to use?alwayslovely wrote:I visited today and the facilities are so nice! I've seen the gym, its shared with all the Maryland students (dental, med, etc). It was pretty nice and there is a pool. It was a block from the school in a building that also had a cafe and some other stuff.

There is a nice shared gym that you use with other grad students. The area immediately next to the campus is not great, but you can find pretty choice housing in FedHill or Fells Point for around $600/month. Those are really fun areas for mid-20s people.

So, about maryland's scholarship that has to be accepted within two weeks...?
Is that a hard or a soft deadline? I seem to remember someone saying it wasn't strict, and that is not going to be enough time.

The scholarship isn't binding. You don't have to enroll to take it. I don't actually know what "accepting" it is...PARTY wrote:So, about maryland's scholarship that has to be accepted within two weeks...?

Has anyone who had their status change to "decision made" on the 17th received their decision yet?

Letter in the mail. In! (PT 155ish/3.7ish and tons of WE and other softs. Non-URM).
First "official" acceptance of the cycle since L&C can't confirm my acceptance though I'm in on the ASW. So happy for it!

I received the MD law reception e-mail on the day the decision was rendered. If you got the e-mail my guess is that your acceptance letter is in the mail, though don't quote me on that.mmhmmjc wrote:congrats, did u get a maryland law reception email beforehand?hadisious wrote:Got my acceptance as well today. I also received the email at that time, so I'll add that for consideration in the pattern.I received the MD law reception e-mail on the day the decision was rendered. If you got the e-mail my guess is that your acceptance letter is in the mail, though don't quote me on that.

I have a 157/3.5, non URM. I live in Baltimore City and work for a big firm downtown. I got waitlisted which is a bit of a shocker (UMD is my top choice). Curious as to whether in-state vs. out of state is playing into decision making factors, or if for some reason there may be something else up with my application...

I am OOS. Did you apply PT? If I recall correctly you were looking to keep working at your firm during law school. I remember you telling me about your work experience in the American thread (waiting to hear from them myself) and it sounds like you've got good stuff there. My numbers are a stretch for Maryland with my GPA above the 75th for both programs and meh LSAT, so strictly on the numbers, maybe they wanted to balance out a low GPA somewhere. You're an applicant right there in the city and doing work there, so I think there's got to be good news for you soon.z0rk wrote:Congratulations! Are you OOS?TIKITEMBO wrote:Letter in the mail. In! I also applied part-time and I was waitlisted. I'm in-state and I work in Baltimore. I have a 158 and 3.4, so maybe they are looking for some applicants with higher GPAS. We'll see what happens...Congrats!TIKITEMBO wrote:I am OOS. Did you apply PT? If I recall correctly you were looking to keep working at your firm during law school.
