Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I haven't seen the paperwork yet, but I could have sworn I heard something before in the conversation about GPA requirements. Their site with past years' info though said automatic renewal (which I take to mean no GPA requirements). I guess I'll have to wait till I can read the fine print and figure it out. Since we're all out-of-state, 90k a year means we'd still be looking at another 60k in tuition alone over three years right? It says they offer up to full rides plus 20k in stipend though...do you think these are negotiated later in the cycle?

Yeah, people have had their scholarship amounts increased later in the cycle.MumofCad wrote:I haven't seen the paperwork yet, but I could have sworn I heard something before in the conversation about GPA requirements. Most of the time, it's just going to be something along the lines of not flunking out (i.e., good academic standing)

Curious - There were at least 3 RD candidates admitted today on this thread. They are clearly starting to roll out RD decisions. But it seems that its only scholarship numbered people. No one else has come forward at least.
So has everyone admitted thus far from RD received the same scholarship?

Did anyone see an application status change?
I just checked mine, and nothing seems different.

I don't believe my status (or any other information for that matter) changed at all.icedflames wrote:Did anyone see an application status change?

I'm still waiting for my last LOR to get uploaded. Really anxious to get my apps out after today's news. Though UVA is a huge reach for me, I should have had all my apps sent last month.

My status checker lists nothing under the status. Anyone else have this?

Congrats vincanity!! And yes, I think we all received the same dean's scholarship, not sure though. mine was $75k not $90k.
Icedflames: my status has not changed at all. it doesn't say anything at all.

Hmm, I hope I got 90k. I guess I'll wait and see when I get the acceptance in the mail. I am pretty sure it was only 75 though

If anyone is interested, this appears to be the only difference I can find on the status checker page after I was admitted:

My guess is that you will get an email prior to this change, so take it for what it's worth.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Congrats to everyone who received acceptances today! I have the feeling that application numbers are down this year and they may simply have the "luxury" of admitting RD applicants that applied early. It may simply be early in the cycle, but I have the general feeling that activity on LSN and TLS is down for this cycle. That may have little to no bearing on how many people out there are actually applying to law school; I am still pretty sure that application numbers will be down this year from last.

For those that are curious, yes -- I did write a "Why UVA" essay. Also, I applied in the beginning of Sept, which may be why I heard back already.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
not to start a huge argument, but i really dont get the logic of the "why ____" essay if its not your first or maybe second choice. obviously uva knows someone with a 17_ and 3.8 gpa isn't thinking UVA is their first (or 2nd or 3rd or 4th) choice so they MUST realize that these essays are BS right? obviously youre just writing it to please them, unless it really is your first choice and then you probably would've ED! it should be called "why UVA if i don't happen to get into 8 other schools" lolsdwhodat wrote:I haven't heard anything yet. Maybe it's because I didn't write a Why UVA... UVA isn't my top school but I could have definitely made something up if it would give me a better shot...
im not saying its dumb to write them (thats what they want right?) but it seems insane that they don't realize theyre not really all that genuine

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Some people don't go off rankings completely for their law school choices. Maybe there is a specific professor, class, or opportunity at UVA, or maybe it is the location. As to not ED'ing, thats reasonable with a why UVA because as much as you may want to go to UVA you may not have the money.bleylaw wrote:not to start a huge argument, but i really dont get the logic of the "why ____" essay if its not your first or maybe second choice. obviously uva knows someone with a 17_ and 3.8 gpa isn't thinking UVA is their first (or 2nd or 3rd or 4th) choice so they MUST realize that these essays are BS right? obviously youre just writing it to please them, unless it really is your first choice and then you probably would've ED! it should be called "why UVA if i don't happen to get into 8 other schools" lolsdwhodat wrote:I haven't heard anything yet. As to why schools like it, they have to build their classes carefully to get the medians they want. A why x shows that you arent just using them for scholarship leverage or applied for no reason. Giving them a reason to think you would matriculate lets them admit you with more confidence
