what are my chances?

This isn't the thread for that-- you want to go to the "What are my chances" forums and create a thread there.

That being said, our numbers are pretty similar (graduated the same year, same GPA, my LSAT is higher) and I'm in at Northwestern. Browse through this thread for crumpetsandtea's posts and any other 2.x/17x splitters to get a good idea. You can also search at lawschoolnumbers.com, but I honestly think this thread is a nice compilation of a lot of the same data there.

Its tough out there...especially when a retake just isn't an option....I get tired of hearing that shit from everyone else.


Only one denial (Berkeley) so far and a WL at UWashington and UGA. Admits at GMU, UKY, UOregon, Penn St, and some others....

Really hoping my veteran soft will get me off the WL at UGA or UDub......

Important factors to consider:

- Do you have WE (work experience)?
- Can you/are you willing to retake?
- Are you willing to apply somewhere ED?

If you have WE: you have a shot at NU. W/O WE, you have little to no shot there.

If you are willing to retake: please do. With a 2.6 your chances are VERY LOW at any school worth going to for sticker price, and your chances at $$$ are even lower. The fact that you have a 170 is good, but 170 is median at most T14 schools, and with your really low GPA you'll probably get shut out of the entire T14, especially with no WE. If you don't retake, you'll probably be looking at really low ranked regional schools or, at best, some money from a midwestern school like UIUC, WUSTL, or UMN.

If you are willing to apply ED, then take a good look at NU, GULC, and UVa as your best bets in the T14. If not, you probably won't get into GULC or UVa, and your shot at NU is pretty darn low. Also note that NU's ED program offers a $150K scholarship, so you won't actually get in via ED, it will just give you an intangible boost for RD.

My cycle still has a long way to go as I plan on riding WLs into the summer if I must in order to obtain a T-14 acceptance. But I figured I'd make a post here now that I finally have some decisions.

If Mich or Penn take me I'll probably withdraw from my WLs and just go. I don't have a strong preference for any of the top four T-14s I applied to; I'd be thrilled with any acceptance. Otherwise I will plan on going to WUSTL but will sit on WLs until the end and retake in June to try to score 175+.

A 173 seems like it would have gotten you in somewhere. Are you just a really vanilla applicant?

Update. 3.2/169/175. All apps in by first week in November. Still in undergrad, but have 2 years volunteer experience abroad.

Pending: NYU (almost certainly a WL or rejection).

I got into UVA within a month of applying and was pretty optimistic about the rest of the cycle. Since then, it has mostly been a long string of rejections and waitlists. Still thrilled to be going to UVA, though.

You've probably heard this a million times, but is retaking and waiting a year not a possibility for you? Regular splitters can't do sht to help their gpa, but reverse splitters.... If you even got into the mid 160s, your options would be so much better. Anyone with a 3.9 should not be taking on any debt for law school.
