It was fantastic! There were several administrators, professors and students that showed up. Dean Campbell was also present and it was a pleasure speaking with him. He is a very smart and humble man. I really enjoyed my discussions with everyone and the campus is beautiful.

Given the numbers that the school has given out, only 40% of students' salaries can be computed. And of those REPORTED salaries, the median is $75k. Mix in another 60% of too-ashamed-to-report and you have a much truer number.

Too many numbers? It's the secret formula for "you're fucked if you go here."

Same boat - Submitted 12/10 and in review 1/8. I'm >Median GPA <LSAT so I figured they would string me along. I'm thinking they are waiting for 1st seat deposits to see where they are at and will send out accepts/rejects at the later part of April. I guess it makes more sense to have this approach as opposed to waitlisting a ton of people then having to re-evaluating the apps.
It does suck for those of us who want attend but are having to put down seat deposits at other schools and may very well lose them.

You know, it's great that you're looking out for us. Employment statistics are something any prospective law student has to be wary of.

Here's some things you should consider.

• Not all of us are going to law school to make 100k when we graduated.
  Not all of us want to become lawyers.
  Not all of us give a shit about T14 schools, or whatever the LSAT's Chosen Ones have deemed T14 now.
  Those figures don't include people not in the legal field. So, say somebody gets a law degree then goes into an engineering job. Doesn't count.

So look, great for you if you're going to a HYSPennMichiganCooley. I'm going to Chapman because I've made a well-researched decision to go there. I've considered the employment figures. If people had been raising the question about law employment, then hey, by all means come in and show us some fancy flow charts and pictures. Good response. But you've got a contradiction. I would use a better reference than Law School Transparency (and troll these threads a lot more) if there WERE a better reference. There isn't. You cannot have made a well-researched decision because there is not enough information out there to research. There is no reference out there that would allow you to say, hey, Chapman is a sound financial decision. You're just rolling the dice.

LST is transparent about the information it doesn't have. You're right that it's not a good reference, but part of the point here is that there is no good reference. Not for me. Not for you.

Edit: Someone said this isn't the place for this discussion. But I think it is. The sad people in the employment forum can't change their minds. People here, can, and thinking about employment has as much to do with an acceptance as anything else.

This thread is about keeping up-to-date with the admissions process for Chapman. There are other threads available to discuss deciding on law schools. If you cannot find one that suits your own particular rants, I suggest you start one of your own.

Ugh thank you Texas for dealing with that cause I'm really not in the mood.

But let me just say this...if we have happily decided on our school, then let us make that decision. If you think it's as bad decision fine think that. But you have no idea WHAT area of law any of us want to go into, or what our reasons were for choosing Chapman.

We should have the 2009 data ready to go in LST's data clearinghouse soon. But in the meantime, I encourage you to look at the 2009 spreadsheet taken from U.S. News. Of note:

Out of 199 ABA approved law schools, just 16 reported more graduates in jobs that didn't require bar admission than Chapman. Only 53.7% of Chapman grads found FT work that required bar admissions in 2009. This was the best hiring year on record, prior to the bubble. In its best year, just half of Chapman grads found FT legal work. Without accurate data on 2010 grads (which requires you contacting the school and making a request), it's reasonable to assume things were about twice as poor. This means a 1 in 4 shot of finding FT legal work of any nature.

22.7% of the Class of 09 was represented in the salary information. Just 42% of private sector graduates reported salaries. That means that the reported 25th/median/75ths of $45K, $60K and $78K most likely reflect only the top fifth of the class. To state the same thing in another way: the top 10% of Chapman's '09 class turned out making $60K or more, while the top 20% landed you a legal job making somewhere around $45K, and nearly half the class could not find full-time legal work of any nature.

I encourage you to contact the school directly for Class of 2010 employment data, and to ask them very specific questions that can help you prepare financially. I would also ask them about any new programs the school has developed to prepare graduates for solo practice, since that is likely where a large chunk of the bar admission-required people are ending up these days.
