Accepted awhile ago, got my scholarship today. 21,000/year. Don't know if its still worth it with the 40,000+ tuition and the high cost of living in San Diego.

Just received a new e-mail stating my scholarship amount has increased. I now will get 30k a year, opposed to 26k a year.

Same, but mine went up from 18,000 to 21,000. Random question....do your offers apply for all three years, or does it say specifically for 2011-2012? Mine appears to apply only year one....

My email says that it is renewable each year "according to the terms of your original offer letter," which for me was remaining in the top 33 percent of my class.thegreatk wrote:Same, but mine went up from 18,000 to 21,000. Niether my original scholarship letter nor the recent email has a grade stipulation or renewal stipulation. Strange, right?dswimmer wrote:My email says that it is renewable each year "according to the terms of your original offer letter," which for me was remaining in the top 33 percent of my class.thegreatk wrote:Same, but mine went up from 18,000 to 21,000. Unexpected as well. I wish mine didn't have a grade stipulation...thegreatk wrote:Niether my original scholarship letter nor the recent email has a grade stipulation or renewal stipulation. You should probably call the admissions office to confirm. $21,000 for one year is a hard sell. If it's renewable, I think you'll be in a much better position (but that's just my 2 cents).

I agree completely....I'm hoping that it's not in lieu of a renewable offer, but in addition to one. I got the scholarship letter along with my acceptance letter, which was before my FAFSA was complete. Fingers crossed!

Where are you currently living and where do you want to practice? I'm living in Orange County right now, but I am originally from SD and I can tell you that your living expenses will be less in SD than OC or LA. If you're not interested in practicing in southern California, and more specifically, SD, then perhaps this is not the best option for you.Birdlaw wrote:Accepted awhile ago, got my scholarship today. 21,000/year. Re: University of San Diego 2011
also got upped to 30... was gonna send in my deposit last week, but now i'm glad i waited, as i'm assuming it's meant to be incentive to deposit.
have any of you ever heard of anyone ever being able to negotiate down the stip? a top 50% would, i think, be a lot less stress come exam time (even though we all hope to be top 33, realistically, 66% of us will not be)...

I've been looking, but I haven't seen anyone successfully get rid of a stip. Let me know what happens if you try.smittelman6 wrote:also got upped to 30... was gonna send in my deposit last week, but now i'm glad i waited, as i'm assuming it's meant to be incentive to deposit.

FWIW, my scholarship came with a stipulation for being in the top 50%. They just upped mine today via email from 16k/year to 21k/year.

I was told that it takes about 4 weeks for the scholarship committee to review accepted student files. I would start badgering them after thatkkklick wrote:Where TF is my scholly info...

also, i'm thinking that now that they upped everyones (i think it's everyones?) by about 4k each, maybe they held your letter so that they could wait and send the correct amount.kkklick wrote:Where TF is my scholly info...

Re: University of San Diego 2011
Hoping this is true, maybe those who were offered hefty scholly's withdrew from San Diego and there's more funds to go around. My stats are not amazing but I would need a good chunk of change to be able to afford SD. Have you heard yet?smittelman6 wrote:also, i'm thinking that now that they upped everyones (i think it's everyones?) by about 4k each, maybe they held your letter so that they could wait and send the correct amount.kkklick wrote:Where TF is my scholly info...

Re: University of San Diego 2011
has anyone received the verification worksheet via email? it says my fin aid file will be incomplete until it & a signed copy of my tax return & w-2 are sent in. if taxes aren't due until April, does this mean I need to do them early to get my fin aid stuff complete? should i send in copies of my w-2 before i'm done with my taxes just to help the process along? any help would be greatly appreciated...
