I'm pretty sure other schools require the NeedAccess (which costs $28 total for all schools).bergg007 wrote:Yes, yes they are.bk187 wrote:They aren't the only one.boozehound wrote:I'm not too bright....but apparently UC Davis requires me to pay $28 to apply for need-based financial aid. In that case, CONGRATS!Aggiegrad2011 wrote:It's appropriate!krad wrote:I'd say congrats aggie... but I'm not quiiiiite sure if that's appropriate? Does anyone know if that sets a precedent for the next 2 years so that the rug doesn't get swept out from under me if I were to decide to take them up on that? It'd certainly have the advantage of not leaving the area etc. Some $ is always a nice game-changer.

For the person complaining about need access, I had to submit to 4 schools the need access thing including Northwestern.
I kind of like it because it goes so in-depth that it really helps poor bastards like me.

Well if previous posters are any indication, then that flood of us who went in review a few weeks back are due to hear today. Most said they heard 16 days later. =\ i had a dream last night that i was in, but then my first day there was an absolute disaster.

That is probably how most law schools' first days are though. Could be prophetic for all of usMike088 wrote:Well if previous posters are any indication, then that flood of us who went in review a few weeks back are due to hear today. I just talked with the assistant director of fin aid yesterday about whether I should redo the needaccess. She said "if you got grants last year, they'll likely be the same every year."Aggiegrad2011 wrote:Yea I am accepted.jwmalone87 wrote:I filled out Need Access but didn't get an e-mail...have you already been accepted to Davis?Aggiegrad2011 wrote:Just got my need access report e-mail - I apparently will qualify for $25,000 in grant aid because my entire family is dead broke.

Well kind of fantastic, since it makes everything much more dicey.

I don't like it because I'm not going to get a dime from my parents for school and haven't gotten any support from them in 7 years but I'm still not going to get a need-based dime because of their income. It's bullshit.Aggiegrad2011 wrote:For the person complaining about need access, I had to submit to 4 schools the need access thing including Northwestern.

I won't get any because my father refused to submit his info- sweet. It's kind of like you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I would never get $ based off my parents' income (even though I haven't received their support in years either) and I won't get any because they didn't submit their info.
Oh well!

The $25K/yr award is AWESOME. If you can keep your COL low, which is easy to do in Davis (I pay $500/mo rent for an awesome apartment), then you should be looking at a similar picture for the next few years. Call finaid with specific questions though before you take my word as definitive on anything.

Yeah, we have a really expensive apt. here at the moment but it was more of a necessity at the time. We'll certainly downgrade to a much cheaper, smaller place no matter which LS I end up attending.SBL wrote:The $25K/yr award is AWESOME. Can you suggest any particularly good questions to hit the Fin Aid people with? My main concern is the renewability of it, but Yo! kinda figured that out for me. I'm also a bit concerned with the Regents continuing to jack up tuition rates, and if my grant won't grow along with the tuition, I could end up with more out of pocket expenses than I had predicted before. Aside from that big burning Q, though, nothing pops in mind. Any suggestions SBL?

Maybe it's because of my age or the fact that I'm married, but they only asked me FOUR questions about my mom / dad:yepyep wrote:I don't like it because I'm not going to get a dime from my parents for school and haven't gotten any support from them in 7 years but I'm still not going to get a need-based dime because of their income. 1. Is your mother living
2. Is your mother living with you
3. Is your father living
4. Is your father living with you
I answered 'yes' to 1 & 3, and 'no' to 2 & 4... and that was that. Quite literally *no* other parental information. Not their tax returns, not their W2s, absolutely, positively nothing.
They did ask, "Have you received aid from your parents?" and of course, since my parents are utter deadbeats, I could easily say NO.

That's it. I was convinced today was going to be decision day. But no, i will be in review until the day before the Earth explodes. Then they will reject me anyways.

Careful. She did say that, but there are no guarantees in the world of UC financial aid. Either way, it's bad news for me. I'll probably never get any kind of grant aidAggiegrad2011 wrote:Yeah, we have a really expensive apt. here at the moment but it was more of a necessity at the time. Waitlisted today.
It's funny how they ask you to click the link to see your decision, but right below it says "directions to fill out waitlist form"

When you get a decision, there'll be a link where your status was, that says "Click here to see your decision!"DreamsInDigital wrote:just went into evaluation. the wait begins (continues?).

Sadly, as someone pointed out, if you're WL'd, right below the link, there's another link telling you how to fill out the WL thing.
Bad form, bad form. =/

Lots of schools seem to do things that give away your decision before you see it (whether it is something like the size of a letter or the wording of an email).Aggiegrad2011 wrote:When you get a decision, there'll be a link where your status was, that says "Click here to see your decision!"DreamsInDigital wrote:just went into evaluation. the wait begins (continues?).

I did not receive any form of communication from UC Davis other than the initial complete/status checker e-mail. I went into review about 2 weeks ago and found out yesterday through the status checker.Mike088 wrote:Really sorry you guy's didn't get the decision you wanted. did you guys get an email first or did you just keep checking your status? i've been hitting refresh on the status checker since feb 15 when i went in evaluation lol.
