Agreed - something like the YLS twitter feed would be nice.muzzy wrote:Would it hurt for admissions offices to announce their general plans for the week / basic numbers once things get to crunch time?

YES. Especially where you can change the theme around. So some days I could have a luau themed tracker, sometimes a spaceship-looking one, etc. The variety might make me feel like I wasn't always looking at the same screen.JSWright101 wrote:Agreed. I called after April 1st and asked if they had an estimated decision timeline, and they said they are trying to get all the decisions out "before April 31st." Just so everyone can stop obsessively checking their status checkers....for now at least.

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
As much as I use the status checker, I think if I had a say in the matter, I'd ditch it altogether and notify applicants of any major changes (received, complete, maybe UR, decision) by email. The current setup just feeds into compulsive checking behavior. Not to be too heavy, but as someone who's struggled with OCD, this is seriously driving me nuts. Waiting for Yale was actually pretty easy for me (even though it was my top choice/I had to wait quite awhile/I didn't get in) because I wasn't investing all this mental energy into checking my status every day. I dunno, what's the benefit of having the checkers at all?FanOfPosner wrote:YES. Especially where you can change the theme around. As someone who also struggles with OCD, I can completely empathize. Both the status checker and YLS' tweets made it so much harder for me to compartmentalize my uncertainty. I think it adds a lot of unnecessary stress, and little useful information.

I would like a status checker that says “ admitted ." Is that so much to ask?FanOfPosner wrote:YES. Especially where you can change the theme around. Actually this would be both totally awesome and not outside the bounds of reasonable for a top law school. If I were a student at ASW, I would think getting to congratulate a new admit would be pretty cool.t-14orbust wrote:Maybe Dean Deal will have all the ASWers congregate in a conference room and they'll all call in the final acceptances on speaker.

If you get the phone call, does the checker change to DLS afterwards? I mean a DL has been S... you just know about it ahead of time.james.bungles wrote:Stanford's status checker is great because it doesn't tell you if you've been accepted, only if you've been denied (or WLed).

I wouldn't be that surprised if they did so considering the small class size and collegiality of Stanford. Imagine getting a facetime call from Dean Deal and the SLS ASWers congratulating you on your admittance hahahahIrishJew wrote:Actually this would be both totally awesome and not outside the bounds of reasonable for a top law school. And if you don't get a decision within 30 days (minutes?) your pizza (application fee? tuition?) is free.JSWright101 wrote:Agreed. Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
Agreed. I hate having to log into the checker, especially for several different schools. I actually don't see why they couldn't all integrate on the LSAC site (most of them are already hosted by LSAC) and give one page of statuses there. They already do this with how you prep and send your apps, would it be too much to add "under review," "under second review," "held," decision, etc.? And it updates once a day at a designated time. And since it's on one page, you could customize your alerts by e-mail.Ryan11212 wrote: As much as I use the status checker, I think if I had a say in the matter, I'd ditch it altogether and notify applicants of any major changes (received, complete, maybe UR, decision) by email. Has anyone emailed admissions? How long did it take for them to respond?

This might just be anger/frustration/jealousy speaking but I wonder how many brave souls have written to Stanford to explain to them why it is completely unacceptable to not give applicants ANY information for almost 7 months. (Not offering to do it myself, though I am tempted.) Other schools have figured out how to manage this process somewhat humanely (at least from what I've seen) and Stanford really needs to make an effort to reduce the crazy-making of the applications process. It's just cruel. I don't care how special they think they are. /please don't quote
