Honestly, this is the only response that I didn't expect at the beginning of the cycle. Obviously I know my app better than anyone else, and I felt going in that it was relatively weak. I predicted a 50/50 shot at Harvard; I got a JS1. I predicted a WL at Chicago due to the GPA / NYC issue; I was WL'd at Chicago. The only thing out of the ordinary so far is Columbia essentially rejecting me. I was predicting a Butler. But then after reading past threads and looking at LSN, I could see that this has happened to applicants with similar profiles before, so I'm still not completely surprised.

Its obviously not C&F issues because if it would had disco'd him they would have straight up rejected him and the other schools would have stayed away.

It's not C&F because I never lie, and I assure you it's not C&F. I have one speeding ticket. That's it.

There is another unique addendum in my app; you can ask me about it in PM if you want. But I think it's more likely a combination of factors which makes certain schools turn their noses up at me.

So when we say 99% of the time its numbers, thus far Lav is the sacrificial lamb that is the 1%.

Remember: I died for your sins.

Thanks everyone for caring so much, but really, it's fine. I decided I wasn't going to attend without at least a Butler anyway.

Never said that. In fact, I think I said as much after I got my NYU offer.

I don't come from wealth and I'm rather debt-averse. Besides, I felt more comfortable at Cornell anyway. I think it's the right choice for me.

Congrats. I think Cornell is an outstanding school. From the letters from Dean Geiger, to the bound welcome book, to their timeliness and courtesy I have been impressed by everything they do. With your numbers you will be at the very top of the class and that will take you anywhere you want to go, and with no debt. Everybody thinks they will be in the top 10% of the very best schools and 90% of them are wrong. At Cornell you will thrive. Thanks for all the help and hard work you put in on this site. It helped a lot.
