Yes, they were going to accept us, then saw us whining/slammong them on this board, went back and met and decided to ding us.alphie wrote:I just called, I told the lady who answered that I had been waiting for a week. This response by GULC supports a theory I have been considering this past week as to why the delay is occurring.
We received decisions on 12/01.
On 12/02 GULC's dean announces that he is leaving in January to work for the UN.
This makes people potentially less attracted to GULC, (i.e. less likely to accept an offer), especially those with high numbers and numerous other options. This is sort of a "gamer changer" in their admissions analysis formula.
The adcoms need to reconsider their admissions decisions based on this new information that a very talented dean, and a significant "draw" for the school, is leaving in a few weeks.

I wonder if I can go by the office and pick up my decision..their policy is just phone/email right?

Honestly, the longer the wait is, the more optimistic I'm getting. Lots of (quite possibly inept) folks in admissions keep saying about mail backups and screwups getting stuff out. Would they be saying all that if we were all just getting rejection or WL emails? How could there possibly be this kind of delay if it was just a round of emails? There must be something going out hard copy. I hope whoever in the admissions office said that all rejections/WL's are emails is on the low end of the G-Town admissions ineptitude scale.

I would imagine they probably don't want any interaction with an applicant when they get a decision, especially a bad one. It puts them in an awkward position.wootwootdc wrote:I wonder if I can go by the office and pick up my decision..their policy is just phone/email right?

Yeah then friday they say "sorry its our policy not to give out decisions by phone" and then you have to wait the whole weekend...again.starscream wrote:Find out by FRIDAY? So a good TEN DAYS after they made a decision???

I could certainly see this happening. They could keep stringing us along for 2 or 3 weeks if they feel like it. And no one in admissions even gives us half of a straight answer. While I would be thrilled to get an acceptance, I now look at this school in a whole new light.wootwootdc wrote:Yeah then friday they say "sorry its our policy not to give out decisions by phone" and then you have to wait the whole weekend...again.starscream wrote:Find out by FRIDAY? can other people call and see what they say? no one has to say their names or anything..just 12/1 decision. that puts pressure on them to actually do something

Exactly what I'm thinking. We should FLOOD them with calls today. If nothing else, we might be able to take all the conflicting things they say and tie it into what actually might be the truth. Also, it might get those decisions out faster.wootwootdc wrote:can other people call and see what they say? no one has to say their names or anything..just 12/1 decision. that puts pressure on them to actually do something

Yeah I think as many people possible should call. It may make someone crack and give a real answer. If anything though, I love reading the incredibly unique answers their admissions office has been churning out to each caller. Every single one of them is different and there has been no uniformity. You would think at $100 bucks an app they would be able to run a alfway decent admissions office.

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
I think this is actually a pretty good theory. As far as I'm aware, GULC doesn't have a track record of being non-committal and sending mixed signals about their ED decisions once they have been posted as finalized. The sudden leave of the current Dean could easily be a cause as to the hold up.uganik wrote:This response by GULC supports a theory I have been considering this past week as to why the delay is occurring.
A head's up would have been nice, but transparency isn't some sort of innate right we're being denied. Really, all the talk of telephone bombing and cursing the GULC admissions office really undercuts the hand-wringing message that GULC somehow needs to be more professional.

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
It doesn't make sense that other acceptances would be received much faster than the 12/1 dates. I would not be surprised if the 12/7 DR gets their mail before the 12/1 dates. Whatever is causing the delay, it doesn't seem to affect the acceptance letters...dakatz wrote:Honestly, the longer the wait is, the more optimistic I'm getting. Look, could be anything - maybe they were going to ding us, ran the list by the Dean and he said, literally, "Are you on crack - you're throwing out all our URM's/splitters/etc???" and made them go back and find 10% to keep/WL or something. Who knows.
But I wouldn't keep calling. A week is not long in the life of an office - it may feel like forever to us, but it's like after I've interviewed people for jobs, they call the next week, then again - sometimes it just takes a month or more when you told them you'd be deciding the next week - it just happens, and you appreciate them not just calling and calling.
You've never dealt with an IT department maybe - they are notorius for taking forever to do things such as send e-blasts (other emergency projects always pop up, I've waited a month for something that normally takes a day)dakatz wrote:Honestly, the longer the wait is, the more optimistic I'm getting.
